Royal Canadian Mountie Dan Candy spends a year pursuing Cree fugitive Almighty Voice, who killed a cow to feed his people and after he was arressted broke jail. Another Mountie tried to bring him back and was killed. Based on a true story, this Canadian film is clearly sympathtic to the indians. Dan Candy is no Sgt. Preston, he's an arogant sob and a drunk According to this film the escape was a result of Candy unchaining Almighty Voice (because he didn't like the sound of rattling chains) and then teasing him claiming he not going to get a trial but just be hanged in the morning. I'm trying to remember if Donald Sutherland has ever played a character I've liked. The other Mounties are not portrayed as much better. The interesting thing about this film is that the indians are played by actual indians speaking their own language. The chief Sounding Sky played by actual Chief Dan George is the only one to speak English. The film is badly editted, jumping from one scene to another too rougly. The first few minutes of video on this $1 is bad.
