According to rumors the eighth season of SMALLVILLE may be in trouble due to the rapidly dwindling cast of characters.Already the series has seen the departures of Jonathan and Martha Kent and most recently Lionel Luthor. It is now confirmed that Lex Luthor will be scarecly used in season eight due to the departure of actor Michael Rosenbaum from the show. Also Kristen Kreuk as Lana Lang has only signed up for a handful of season eight episodes and not the entire season. Now Allison Mack, who plays the last remaining "Created for the series" character Chloe Sullivan,is being said to demanding more money to return for an eighth season and apparantly the network is refusing to meet her price. With yet another actor seemingly on the verge of leaving the show one has to wonder if the WB will even bother to renew SMALLVILLE which admittedly has not been delivering quality episodes as of late.Internet rumors have Doomsday supposedly being brought in for the eighth season and one has to wonder if this is some kind of stunt from the show's producers to ensure WB picks up the show for the eighth season.

I haven't been watching. I lost interest during the previous season.
Just out of curiosity what happened to Martha and Lionel?

he's been in Smallville for 8 years now? would he be about 24 or so (assuming he was 16 at the start)? they should just wrap it up.

Martha left for Washington DC assuming Jonathan's position as Senator. while Lionel was murdered by his own son Lex Luthor.

Oh and by the way Lex has been shot and stabbed multiple times on the show yet somehow always recovers completely by the end of the episode.

Why would Martha go to Washington when Jonathan was elected a Kansas state senator not a US senator from Kansas?
Actually its perfectly normal for the governor of a state to appoint the wife of a senator to fill the remaining term of office. The problem in Smallville is that Jonathan Kent was not actually sworn in. He died right after the election.
Lex killing Lionel was to be expected.

This is just ample proof of how bad the show is getting.Really bad scripts. This past season had Pete Ross getting "rubber stretching powers",Jimmy Olsen forced into becoming a super spy,Clark putting himself into the kryptonian rocket, and Lana bumping uglies with Bizzarro believing him to be Clark.Just bad.
