Produced by Val Lewton Directed by Mark Robson
Tom Conway - Doctor Louis Judd Jean Brooks - Jacqueline Gibson Isabel Jewell - Frances Fallon Kim Hunter - Mary Gibson Evelyn Brent - Natalie Cortez Erford Gage - Jason Hoag, Poet Ben Bard - Mr. Brun Hugh Beaumont - Gregory Ward Chef Milani - Mr. Jacob Romari Marguerita Sylva - Mrs. Bella Romari
Mary Gibson's older sister Jacqueline has disappeared. Mary goes looking for her. A private detective helping Mary, because he was told not, to is killed. Mary meets a psychiatrist, a lawyer and a poet. One thinks he's helping Jacqueline by hiding her. One is married to her. Two of them are in love with Mary.
The best part of this film is the search for Jacqueline. Once they've found her it slips into silliness about a cult of devil worshipers who have sworn off violence but never the less want Jacqueline dead.
There is isn't any real horror in this film, just a little suspense as Jacqueline flees from a man who is chasing her.
Part of The Val Lewton Horror Collection. They chose it as the last film in the collection, but I've watching them in chronological order (by year anyway) so it's my 4th Val Lewton film, instead of the 10th and final one.
