The Fain gang raids the McCandles cattle ranch, kidnapping 8 year old "Little Jake" McCandles and demanding a ransom of $1,000,000. The boy's grandfather, Jacob McCandles (the Big Jake of the title), uncles James and Michael, indian tracker Sam Sharpnose and "Dog" (Big Jake's dog) set out to rescue the boy.
A little different from most westerns in that it has one man riding a motorycle, Texas Rangers riding in cars, two men armed with high powered rifles with scopes and an automatic handgun which holds 8 bullets in a clip. Its set in 1909. While eastern US is civilized, the west is still a bit wild.
Michael Wayne, Patrick Wayne, and Ethan Wayne are John Wayne's sons. Christopher Mitchum is son of Robert Mitchum. According to the IMdb Richard Boone took the role of the chief villain as a favor to John Wayne. I had originally seen this film before seeing Have Gun - Will Travel so at the time I didn't know that Richard Boone had first played the good guy in westerns. I like him as a villain.
