Yep I remember seeing it on network tv in the 70s. Pretty fun movie and they were able to give their suitmation trex a lot of personality.
That groovy yet horrible theme song is still easily memorable to this day.
Why would a woman, any woman at all, go for that horrible dude. I mean really he was a nasty, sleazy bit of work who seemed to crawl right out of a Charles Bukowski book.

This is another movie that was fun to watch as a kid but doesn't hold up now that I'm an old man.

I forgot what Marge Simpson said about Joan Van Ark! ;D
Yup, I saw this one on ABC back in 1977. It has similar elements to "The Land Unknown" and I guess the 1970s was really the last time you could do "lost world" scenarios. The T-Rex was OK (but nowhere near Gorosaurus). Richard Boone was riot! (You Ding-Dong!).
Of course, it has been said that the "last dinosaur" was more of a reflection of Boone (the last of the great white hunters, etc), more so than the title creature.
And hey, how about a DVD release on this!

The T-Rex was OK (but nowhere near Gorosaurus). The Rex in LAST DINO really can't compare to this:

it's never about Joan van Ark!
i think you'll get a DVD of the movie before too long.
and Raul is correct, nice as the t rex is, it's NO Gorosaurus.

I still remember watching this on ABC as a kid and how it was the talk of the playground the next day! I've always thought the Rex in this movie was very well done and has quite a personality, although he definitely isn't up to the standards of Gorosaurus. After seeing the movie again as a teen and onwards, I absolutely hated the human drama as Richard Boone delivers some awful overacting, and besides he's such an unlikable and ugly person there's no way I could believe Joan Van Ark would fall for him!But frankly I thought the T-Rex should have eaten all of the humans as all of them except the Masai hunter and the Japanese doctor were unlikable. I would like to see this get a dvd release as I don't have the tape anymore, and even though I don't like it as much now, it is a definite fond childhood memory!

I really enjoyed this movie as a kid, but it's one film that didn't age quite as well for me. I liked how one reviewer commented that, according to this movie, the Bantu language(s) is the most efficient in the world, since the word "Bunta" can mean "he who has a hundred wives and thousand head of cattle" (or something like that).
The T-Rex ain't got nothing on Gorosaurus, that's for sure.

;D ;D ;D ;D .5 out of ;D I absolutely love this film! And yes, while I love the T-Rex in this one,he in NO way compares to GOROSAURUS, who is easily the best suitmation dino EVER! Kazuo Sagawa's FX are great(for the most part),and Tom Kotani's direction is top-notch. Also, the T-Rex suit became Lord Tyranus in "Dinosaur War Aizenborg" later that year(IMO one of the coolest shows EVER!!) Anyway, everything about the film succeeds, acting, action, FX, characters, atmosphere etc. Where can I get the DVD at?

The Warner Archives Collection released "The Bermuda Depths" recently, and it's been reported that they also have "The Last Dinosaur" waiting in the wings, so hopefully it'll only be a matter of time before it gets a legit R1 release here on U.S. shores. Unfortunately, due to the nature of the films coming from Warner Archives, it also likely means that they won't be taking advantage of the excellent R2 print currently in circulation as their master. Rather, it will be their standard, unspectacular-looking barebones disc, in a 1:33 format, with zero extras. Serviceable, but hardly cause for celebration. A shame too. I mean wouldn't it be great to have Joan Van Ark record a commentary track on the film?! But with the DVD market floundering right now, completists (and kaiju nuts like ourselves) will have to be happy just having an R1 DVD of the film in their libraries - if/when it finally shows up.

The DVD market is floundering? I don't really get it either, but it seems whenever I read reviews about movies (and especially TV shows) coming to DVD all I seem to hear about is how the market is slowing down and releases of anything except new mainstream movies is slowly dwindling away. I am not sure if this perceived slow down is due to the U.S.'s current economic woes or the growing Blu-Ray format. Regardless, let's just hope that stuff like "Last Dinosaur" and "Green Slime" will make it onto DVD before the market implodes entirely.
