Appropriate for Halloween, the grand daddy of British scifi Television, Quatermass serials can be found online here. Actually this is Quatermass II and Quatermass and the Pit. The first serial, The Quatermass Experiment, only two episodes are known to exist. Both of the latter serials are 6 episodes. Also as you watch keep in mind this was live broadcast. It's amazing the depth of look and feel they achieved with what they had to work with. Great mix of scifi and horror, and these serials are way more atmospheric and moody than the Hammer movie adaptations. Here's some behind the scenes with Nigel Kneale talking about Quatermass.

Links don't work. I'd always wondered what the deal was with the first Quatermass serial. Too bad this is first of the trilogy would appear to be a lost film. I'd love to have it to complete my collection. I purchased the 2nd and 3rd of these fantastic tele-films through Sinister Cinema some years ago. They are very, very well done. Of the two, I prefer the third entry, "Quatermass & The Pit." It has a great cast, including my fave Prof. Q (André Morell), and underrated character actor Cecil Linder as Dr. Matthew Roney, (who was also in the classic Bond film "Goldfinger" as CIA agent Felix Leiter!). They are worth the price. Get them! Unless you're the type who only enjoys lots of stuff blowing up and zero character development, you will not be disappointed.

Links should be fixed now.
Yes, Kneale is a good way to go when looking for more cerebral science fiction. The serials are paced very evenly and never lose any steam. Great stuff!
There's an R2 Box set called the Quatermass collection with all 2 and a half serials plus a lot of bonus stuff, including the Kneale Tapes which I linked to above. I think it's about $14 US plus shipping.
