Has anyone seen this? I have always been a Ralph Bakshi fan(LOTR,Fire and Ice,Spiderman '67 etc.) It's like a student-film on acid! Some of the rotoscoping is downright nifty, such as adding wings and helmets and such to the cavalry, BTW,some of the live-action battle footage looks as if it was lifted from Eisenstein's "Alexander Nevsky",but I could be wrong. Gotta love Necron 99(what a GREAT name) Am I the only one who absolutely loves this film?

I saw it literally 50+ times since the 70s and that's before the DVD came out. The DVD btw has some great interviews with Bakshi. To me, this was before discovering Japanese cartoons, so outside of Jonny Quest it was the only adult fantasy/adventure animation up until Heavy Metal came out. I was enamored with it and saw every showing (just shown as midnight runs in my town). Though WIZARDS is art-wise a ripoff of Vaugn Bode's Cobalt 60 comics, it was still something singular and amazing for the time. I thought the rotoscoping was really cool at the time but have grown to find those parts painful to watch now. And yeah, there's footage lifted from Nevsky along with a ton of other movies.

i like it quite a bit, though i wish the story was a bit more linear. i did get to see it as a midnight movie in about '84 in Cumberland MD of all places. great to see on the big scree, for sure.
