A promotional campaign aimed at spanish speaking customers was pulled by BURGER KING. The campaign was to tout the new "Texican" style whopper and the artwork featured a tall, lean American cowboy next to a short, stocky Mexican in a serape resembling the Mexican flag and a lucha libre mask. The capaign came under fire from the Mexican ambassador the the USA amongst other officials not to mention many Mexicans on both sides of the border. It's hard to really determine what was so offensive of the artwork, was it because the Mexican was garbed in a serape and lucha libre mask or because he was made to appear short and stocky next to the tall lean American? In any case BURGER KING quickly folded to the negative reaction and is cancelling the promotional campaign artwork.
