Anyone else enjoying this new animated series? I love the designs which are all straight out of the late golden age/ silver age perios combined with a thick lined cartoony look that i really like. The stories are also quite good and done in a silver age style, which means no dark brooding heroes(Green Arrow even makes fun of Bats' dark persona in one episode) and lots of fun! They are also using scores of great second stringer characters as team-up partners too-Bwana beast(!!), Metamorpho,Wildcat and lots more. They even had the earth 3 bad Batman-Owlman who gets transported to Earth 2 and uses Batman's original 1939 costume. Great stuff!!

Yeah, this is a really good series. Something that finally gets away from Bruce Timm's designs and gets more like classic DC. Lots of great guest stars and situations too. They definitely like to explore the different versions of Bats. The episode The Bold Trials of The Demon, with Etrigan and Sherlock Holmes features the Elseworld's Mike Mignola Batman costume.

I saw that episode the other day and absolutely loved it! Nothing against Bruce Timm's designs, as his series were all top notch, but it is definitely time for a new direction for the DC animated shows. While I did enjoy the elseworlds-esque "re-imaging" of The Batman series, Brave and the Bold is definitely the right direction to go! The only thing i don't like is the producers said they won't be usinf Superman or Wonder Woman, which is a shame. They don't need to use them in every episode, but they should pop up now and then! I hope this series will continue for the now customary 5 seasons!

I always thought the overall idea of the Brave and the Bold, comic included was kind of strange since Batman always seems to be the outsider withing the JLA, etc. So to see him teaming up with everyone and their grandpappy is odd, but it doesn't keep it from being really fun. It is a great vehicle for seeing the more obscure characters.
And yeah, I have nothing against Timm's designs at all. In fact he came up with the overall body type by emulating Alex Toth's Space Ghost design and that in my book is very cool. But after 18 years or so of all animated superheroes looking like that, it's time for a change.

It's ok but sometimes it seems they don't get Batman. The show almost seems two steps backward and we have the campy Batman of the 60's. I remeber the debut episode ended with him and Blue Beetle about to punch a meteor and I thought to myself " Isn't this a job for Superman? ". It seems they defiantely made it more "childish" and are trying to appeal to people who think superheroes should appeal more to children and not to grownups.

well, THOSE superheroes were designed for children, originally. ones with kid sidekicks and masks and codenames... give me this type any day (though I like Timm's versions as well). superheroes don't have to be for kids, but ones that were made for them in the first place should be.

now that I have watched six episodes, I really enjoy it, despite some of the weirder changes (Metamorpho a teenager? really?). it's fun to see more of the obscure heroes get a break and animated, and it's so nice to see a not dark and brooding Batman again.
there's something that's been needing to change for a while now.Attachments:
