SUNDAY JULY 26, 1:30 PM - 2:30 PM, ROOM 8 GODZILLA & THE MASTER OF MONSTERS: Join author August Ragone ( Eiji Tsuburaya: Master of Monsters, Chronicle Books) for a visual tribute to Japan’s Master of Monsters, Eiji Tsuburaya, the man who created the analog special effects for Godzilla and invented the kaiju eiga (giant monster movie) genre. Much like Derek Meddings ( Thunderbirds), Tsuburaya and his team built elaborate miniature city and landscapes, which were summarily destroyed in pyrotechnical conflagrations or by men in monster suits. See over a hundred rare, behind-the-scenes photographs from some of his major films, such as Rodan, The Mysterians, Mothra, and The War of the Gargantuas, all in one colossal presentation! I will also be signing copies of Eiji Tsuburaya at the Chronicle Books booth (#1506) on Saturday, July 25 from 2:00 PM - 3:00 PM. www.comic-con.org

My Wife saw the con on the Twilight DVD and now one of our pipe dreams is to go one year. I'd be in nerd heaven!

as I think the Con has gotten far too big and far less about comic books (I mean, really, Twilight is only peripherally related) it's still a lot of fun to go and see.
you would love it Chad.
I wish I had Sunday off to see your presentation, August!

I know it is a shame, but man I would still so be in hog heaven. I would just make a deal with the Wife, she goes does her thing, I'll go do mine but I get to spend-er-hold all the money! ;D

SDCC is still about comics... but, there's a lot more dimensionality to the event now. I mean, it's great that they allow Godzilla and Ultraman presentations, but Twilight is not? Godzilla and Ultraman have NOTHING to do with comic books... neither does Professional Wrestling, but I'm glad that everything is included at SDCC, otherwise it would be awfully boring for me: My buddy Steve and I with former WWF Superstars, Honky Tonk Man, Bushwacker Luke, and Virgil at SDCC '09!

alas, it's not really about the comics- maybe, 18%, which isn't surprising, since the comics market as it is is shrinking fast (hard to ask your mom for $4 to buy a comic these days if you are a kid). they don't seem to promote comic books much nowadays, that's for sure.
there have always been panels about wider things than just comics. I've gone to panels about Godzilla, Reptilicus, kung fu movies and animation.
my main beef is that it's too big for it's own good now. but that's me- I'm glad you could be there August, as always, and I'd love any of my friends to see it once. probably before it leaves SD for greener pa$ture$ of LA or Vegas...

Like I told you it is something both Crystal and I want to do at least one time. If they move it from San Diego not sure I'd still do it because part of wanting to go is to finally meet up with the elusive and reclusive Megaloman! But man, Comics, Kung Fu flicks, wrestling, Star Wars, Transformers, Godzilla, and GI Joe suck. I mean I hate all that junk why would I want to go? ;D
