The Pinewood Bowl, in Pinewood Park, Lincoln, Nebraska puts on a summer musical every year (since 1949). Usually they pick a classic musical that everybody knows. This year they didn't. They picked Footloose instead. It was okay but I wouldn't rush to see it again. I've never seen the movie, so I can't compare it.
Best singers were the preacher and his wife (makes sense they were oldest and most experienced) and the three who girls sang "Somebody's Eyes". Typical of these outdoor shows the group songs are almost impossible to understand so the title song, and its reprise at the end were a waste.
At least one family walked out after the first couple of songs. Probably didn't find it to be the family friendly show they are used to. Someone should have told them it was a rock musical with some suggestive dialogue.
Oh I should note that I didn't have to pay to get in. My cousin and her husband are volunteers with the Pinewood Bowl Association (he's been in some musicals) and I got a complimentary ticket. I did visit the concession stand, which supports the association.
