Now, I love the original live-action Star Trek, but, the animated series from Filmation is SO much better! Not only is it better sci-fi, but the aliens, monsters, robots, mecha, and the whole production design in particular are just amazing! I like this show so much, that I am willing to place it in my Top Ten sci-fi series of all time, it's that good!(grew up watching it, and recently rediscovered it on YouTube a few sleepless nights ago)
Anyone else feel the same?

Don't like the theme music, but then I dont' like any Star Trek theme song other than the original.

Somehow I missed this as a tyke back then. Growing up I knew of it, but it never popped up on the tube over the ensuing decades. After picking up the original series on DVD a couple of years ago I saw that TAS was being released and so I took a leap of faith and purchased the set. What a pleasant surprise! It really is a great show and frankly I feel as D.C. Fontana and the other creative forces behind it do - that the 2 seasons of animated series were basically seasons 4 & 5 of the original show, thus completing the crew's five year mission.
Almost certainly Filmation studio's best effort, and light years above other kiddie programming of that or damn near any other era. Too bad they didn't run it for another couple of seasons. What makes it so great is that, almost without exception, you could shoot any of those scripts in live action with zero changes. They fit perfectly into the original show's "mold" although the 60's VFX wouldn't have been able to carry off many of the characters/sets/action.
Highly recommended to anyone who's never seen it but is a fan of TOS Trek. Just plain old good, solid sci-fi.

as starved for new ST as I was as a kid, I watched it every week, or as much as I could. it does hold up really well, though I wish they could have used the standard ST music instead of Filmation library cues.
I dislike that it's not considered "canon" though with the new "Trek" movie who knows now. there is the one episode that IS considered part of the series.
it's on sale at Amazon for about $20 now. buy it before some idiot decides to reanimate it with current CG tech and just reuse the voices.
