This book is f'ing amazing. Given that I have a proclivity for older styled comics such as Lee Falk's The Phantom, Caniff's Terry and the Pirates, etc etc, a love of adventure pulps and a real appreciation for the wacky 1960s Japanese hero movies such as Ogon Batto... this thing hits on all cylinders. The comics in this really hit a sweet spot of cool villains, dynamic panels and a classy art style. That they did a direct scan of the comics without cleaning them up, leaving it the pulpy texture of the paper makes it even cooler. I'm a casual Bat Man fan, but this is probably my favorite comic in years. Attachments:

I knew I recognized the art style, it's drawn by Jiro Kuwata who drew 8 MAN.

Damn it was gone. I'll have to see about Ebay or Amazon as I think he'd really dig it.

Awww, sucks! Well, I'm definitely enjoying it. How old is your son, as at least one of the stories is pretty creepy and nightmarish. Lots of death, though no blood or gore. Amazon has a pretty price on it.

He'll be 14. Just trying to find him Manga books that aren't geared towards girls as aside from Naruto that is mostly what our oldest daughter has. Not that here is anything wrong with those types of Manga, just want to get him some he can get into. He loved the Star wars he got last year. Thanks for the warning as I will check it out first.

He should be old enough to deal with it then. The "Lord Death Man" story just has some creepy bits as he keeps dying and then coming back to life and haunting Bruce Wayne in his dreams. What I like about this is that it tells simple, straight forward stories in a clean graphic style and few words, as is the way with traditional manga. There's no huge overarching stories you have to read for years in order to get what's going on. It's a bunch of self contained, individual "short stories" collected together. It's got that 1960s Batman look to it but also the more hard edged feel of manga. Here's a nice rundown on all of the Japanese-only villains in the stories.
