Gamera returns to the big screen.
Seriously.
Heard any news about it.

only that it is not as "dark" as some newbie fans want, nor is Kaneko directing. sounds like fun to me!

Gamera friend to all children is not supposed to be dark.

What kind of kaiju would you want in this film?
I want to see Baragon make a comeback.

So it's the entertaining version of GAMERA 3 then. Sounds good to me.

I agree with David-a new critter to face Gamera would be COOL(named Leoman, perhaps? 8-)I always thought that was a good name...)Either that,or Garasharp or even Markopukarappa.
Yat dan,yee lik,sam gung fu!

Perhaps they can do another SPACE MONSTER GAMERA but with actual new footage rather than recycling the old monster fights.

that could be interesting, as long as it's fun.

If they are going that route, then it's truly ashamed that Noriaki Yuasa isn't around anymore to at least offer some of his assessments.

[glow=red,2,300][/glow]This movie actually looks like it will be cool! The Showa Gamera style is back, kind of. Gamera himself looks more like an actual tortoise and he also looks like he is not fully grown yet either, which could be the case. I guess he'd be Gamera, Junior then. the new monster Jidas looks really cool-very lizard/dinosaur-like and not at all like Kaneko's stupid anime rip-off monsters! I'm quite looking forward to this! of course, it also means new Bandai figures-just when I thought I was done after GFW marked the end of the G series for awhile. I've been trying hard to resist buying ULTRAMAN MAX figures, but I'll have to get Gamera toys!

I like the fact that Daiei is willing to take such chances with the Gamera movies. I mean, the Kaneko trilogy was based in the traditional mold Japanese sci-fi and fantasy films, yet, the filmmakers approached the stories from a different angle. Dare I say, more modern? With this new movie, they're going all-out, and showing us a whole new fascette to the Gamera legend. Very rarely has Toho ever done that with the Godzilla movies (Godzilla vs. King Ghidorah, I think was the only successful attempt)
Oh, and doesn't Jidas look alot like the Mire-goji? Looks like Daiei is really stickin' it to Toho for backing out like b*tches on their 'Godzilla vs. Gamera' project.

I agree with most of what you said about Daiei taking more chances with Gamera's character and series than Toho does with Godzilla. Toho tried to do this with most of the Millenium films-most of them were quite different from each other and from the classic style Godzilla film. Godzilla just doesn't have the audience he did 10 or 15 years ago-Japanese films in general don't. Japanese audience want to see US crap for some reason. I hope the new Gamera will be successful. Unlike Toho, Daiei usually makes Gamera movies for a fraction of what Godzilla costs, so a profit is virtually guaranteed, so that more films will be made because I want to see this new Gamera grow into adulthood. Jidas definitely looks alot like Godzilla! He looks like a combination of elements of the Mire-goji and Godzillasaurus with Jiras' neck frill! It's too bad that GODZILLA VS GAMERA project never got off the ground, I would bet that would be a block buster in Japan bigger than a remake of King Kong vs Godzilla!

I read a good english article on this on a new website-Sci-Fi Japan. Apparently the english title is going to be GAMERA THE BRAVE which sounds so much better than GAMERA:LITTLE BRAVES and the official english translation of the new monster's name is Zedus not Jidas I guess the same way Zigra is not Jigura in english and Kamakiras is spelled Kamacuras. As I suspected Gamera is a juvenile through out this film, going from hatchling to roughly the equivalent of Godzilla Junior. Zedus is a mutant marine iguana that eats humans and has a spike-like tongue capable of piercing Gamera's shell. He's fast and can climb buildings . Basically he's a cool version of Gino or Zilla or whatever you want to call Tri-Star's impostor lizard. They also will be showing this continuity's 1973 version adult Gamera battling Gyaos! I'm quite looking forward to this film more and more. I was not a big fan of the Kaneko Gamera movies and this film sounds alot more in tune with the real Showa Gamera, the friend of all children.

Will the Adult Gamera vs Gaos be new footage or the usual stock footage we've seen before?

New footage, the adult Gamera has a completely new design than any of the other Gameras and he's different looking than the juvenile Gamera in the main film. Gyaos looks fairly similar to the 95 and 99 versions though. I was hoping for something closer to the original 60s version. Here's the link to sc-Fi Japan: www.scifijapan.com/

Anyone heard how this is faring in theaters? I hope it does well as I'd love to see a new Gamera series. I saw several clips and I like the movie already-it's definitely a modern Showa Gamera movie, but I love that idea. The FX look fantastic-Zedus looks incredible!!

Why do you suppose Daiei has always been willing to take chances with Gamera whereas Toho generally stuck to the basics throughout most of Godzilla's career?

NO SPOILERS IN THIS REVIEW I finally saw “Gamera the Brave” at the Egyptian in Hollywood. My verdict. I will give a thumbs up. Not the greatest monster movie I’ve seen, but I was entertained by most of what I saw. They didn’t screen a film print, but rather we saw it in a digital form (Digi-Beta, as what they call it). The movie itself reminded me of a cross between Ray Harryhausen’s “20 Million Miles to Earth” and Spielberg’s “ET”, with just a dash of “Mothra II”. The lead child was pretty good. When using kids however, there are sometimes scenes, that I felt were too contrived. One such scene involved several kids running and passing on a precious stone to take to Gamera. Since this was sort of going back to certain roots, I was surprised that they retained the mysticism that started with the 90s features. I was hoping to see a good old fashion science fiction flick, like they had during the Showa era. Zedus is a mutant marine iguana that eats humans and has a spike-like tongue capable of piercing Gamera's shell. He's fast and can climb buildings . Basically he's a cool version of Gino or Zilla or whatever you want to call Tri-Star's impostor lizard. Indeed. Zedus (or Jidas) does somewhat resemble GINO, but clearly much more interesting and one of the more impressive looking kaiju I’ve seen in a long time. He alone is why this movie is worth watching. As for Gamera, himself, well, his design was a little to cutesy for my tastes. (But the creature as I understand it, is not full grown). They also will be showing this continuity's 1973 version adult Gamera battling Gyaos! Yes, such a scene is in the beginning. Overall, there were enough positives to outweigh the negatives.

it sounds like a lot of fun, if not quite the delirious level of the original movie. thank God they didn't go for the 90s trilogy, or try to make more of it.
i'm so over Gyaos tho.
