Auggie posted the trailer for this on Facebook and it piqued my interest and so bought the DVD set (it's on sale at RightStuf). I'm just 4 episodes in so far but am already completely amazed.
This is a 26 episode series that retells the original Manga version of the story. As such it has a lot more to do with events during and just after WWII up until the 50s. Tetsujin 28 is one of many remnant weapons developed by the Japanese government towards the end of the war. Many other failed experiments abound which the bad guys are getting ahold of and using for various nefarious schemes. Boy detective and son of T-28's creator, Shotaro remotely drives T-28 around in order to defend the world from these robots and other monsters.
Though the episodes are not really anthology based, they very successfully tell an ongoing story arch which is constantly growing and moving forward, keeping a lot of curiosity and interest up, making me itch to watch the next episode.
The animation especially for Japanese TV is extremely high quality, easily as good as many Japanese animated movies. Great art direction, color, direction and very smooth animation.
The DVDs come with Japanese and English language. I'm watching in English and the voice acting is quite good. So far I'm feeling this is one of the best anime series I've seen in ages.

I highly agree, and haven't listened to the English track, so I will try that in the near future. GREAT cartoon!

The English language actor doing Shotaro isn't the strongest of the voice talent but the rest of the cast make up for it.
Though it's also a good adaptation, you'd think the 2003 Tetsuwan Atom would be comparable, but it doesn't hold a candle to this.

I started watching the first episode, and you are right, the dub is not bad at all. it's kind of weird to not hear the names I'm used to- Inspector Blooper, Jimmy, GIGANTOR... but it's quite good.
and the show is spectacular.Attachments:
