I had never tried sake. Then I read an article about a new style of sake that's drank cold rather than heated. Except for apple cider I don't like hot drinks. I found that a local grocery store was carrying two of these sakes. I bought the Pearl Junmai Ginjo Nigori Gensu Sake.
Its interesting. Very different from fruit wine. Its actually white, not the gold color of "white" wines. It tastes more like whiskey than wine to me. 18% alcohol its more potent than your grape wines. The label says its taste is sweet ,full bodied, coconut, pineapple and anise flavors. I can taste the coconut but if its sweet I don't think I'd care for the dry Silver version.
Anyway if I drank sake like the do in the movies I wouldn't be going out and getting involved in sword fights, I'd be going to bed.
Cheers! (Sorry I don't know the Japanese equivalent).

A friend of mine bought me a bottle of sake for my birthday a LOOONG time ago(can't remember the brand to save my life)&I quite liked it.Agree that it's taste is much more akin to whiskey than to wine.Kanpei!(Japanese for ''cheers''!)

I drink sake more than any other alcohol I just tried Nigori sake for the first time last summer and like it a lot. So will stick with the Nigori in the summer and the hot sake in the winter.
