Saw a local production of this musical Sunday night. The local TADA (The Arts Deserve Attention) theater is small place, the 7 characters is about what the stage can hold.
Fun show. A mixture of southern gospel music and comedy. Its 1938, after 5 years of not performing the Sanders Family Singers return to performing with their first show at a local Baptist church.
Father, mother, non-singing daughter who signs for the death, a pair of twins (one male, one female) and the uncle. Other character is the Baptist minister. I knew right away that uncle Stanley was the black sheep.
The mother was played by one of the two actresses who starred in TADA's production of "Always....Patsy Cline", she was the non-singer in that one, but sings in this one. The actress playing the non-singing daughter in this one can in fact sing too.
There's a CD available but the people who did the show in Lincoln are better singers.
Smoke on the Mountain ended the 2010 season. 2011 is going to begin with Happy Days: The Musical.
