Kadokawa(Daiei doesn't exist officially anymore does it?) announced the other day that they will be producing a new Daimajin film to be directed by Takashi Miike for 2008 release. There's no details on the plot or anything yet, but it sounds cool to me. I guess this means Miike's YOKAI DAISENSO, and hopefully GAMERA THE BRAVE were successful .

Hey again guys! Been busy for the last few months, but things will be slowing down again and I can enjoy the board more. Great news on a new Daimajin film! I love the original trilogy and feel it's one of the more underrated Kaiju series out there. Let's hope they come up with a good one.

this has been shelved, apparently due to Gamera's less than stellar BO.

I heard that news and was very disappointed. This, I'm sure, also means no more Gamera movies as well, which stinks as I wanted to see a movie with this current Gamera in his adult form. I also think kadokawa is shelving Majin too soon, as Miike's YOKAI DAISENSO did very well at the BO, and Majin would be more akin too that film than Gamera. Hopefully the Ultra franchise will continue for the near future so at least there will be some tokusatsu being produced. Unfortunately, I think we may be heading into another toku dryspell like 1975-1989, when there were very few kaiju films made and the only consistent toku TV series were sentai.

this has been shelved, apparently due to Gamera's less than stellar BO. Does Gamera have odor problems?A good thorough bath usually solves that problem.

Coming from the ocean I'm sure Gamera smells bad.
Tokusatsu dry spell? Hardly. P Productions' Denjin Zaboga came to an end June 29, 1975 and was not followed by a new series. Other wise the regular tokustau tv contributers Toei, Tsuburaya and Toho all had new shows. Some smaller companies even got in on the action.
1975 Himitsu Sentai Gorenjâ [Secret Task Force Goranger] (at 84 episodes one of Toei's longest tokusatsu series) Seigi no Shinboru Kondoruman [Symbol of Justice: Condorman] Kamen Raidâ Sutorongâ [Masked Rider Stronger] Akumaizer 3 Uchu Tetsujin Kyodain [Space Ironmen Kyodain]
