I came across this when i was looking around the German version of Amazon.com As far as i know no widescreen print of YONGARY has ever turned up anywhere in the world,so this German dvd is a real find-then i looked at the disc's features-it has an english audio track! BUT-it's only 66 minutes long! But still 66 minutes of english dubbed widescreen footage is better than none.I'm trying to figure out how to order one-i'll keep everyone posted!

Oh,well that's kind of a bummer.Still, seeing it widescreen alone, even at 66 minutes is reason to check it out,and now that i know you have a copy David,I'll have to arrange a trade and save myself the 25 bucks in shippinh fees for a 3 dollar dvd!

Just got the Alpha Yongary, and I was a bit surprised. The print isn't as awful as some of the Gamera releases.. Even though it's pretty much a red-headed stepchild version of Godzilla, it's still a fun flick.

I believe the general[?] in the meeting room blurts out "It's Yongary!" when the monster first appears though no explanation is ever given as to how he would know of the monster. His character in the film is one of those guys whose decisions only makes things worse and when someone else does something right he jumps right on in there for some undeserved credit.Sort of like the people in George W. Bush's administration.

Raul, please, no political type posts like that. this isn't the place for it.
i thought the name was based on some kind of legendary creature, but it's been a while since i've watched the movie, i'll do it again soon.

I ended up picking up the german disc on ebay last year for a few bucks. Quite a nice disc indeed! It was great to see Yongary widescreen at long last, even in the truncated german edit. Luckily, they didn't edit any monster scenes, except for Yongary's dance. Their US print seems to be ripped directly from Alpha's disc amazingly! I've always liked this movie alot and could tell they were trying to spark a Gamera-type series. Too bad it never happened, it would have been cool to see a 'friend of children' type Yongary fighting alien monsters Gamera-style!
