Just getting this thread ready, folks. I know this is a favorite of many of you, and I STILL HAVE NOT SEEN IT. A friend said he had it, but it turns out he had another film with a similar title. Drats!
But I found a cheap copy and ordered it a couple of days ago. It will be in the mail to me soon!
Everyone tells me it will fill the void of unhappiness within me!

Okay, the film came in the mail today! And I popped it in and watched it. It's terrible! What an awful film! Oh my goodness! I have to watch it again this evening while gluing a model together. I can't even give you first observations; it'll have to be after the 2nd viewing.
But Eeeeek, Yahhhhh! This is a real golden turkey for sure!

Strange commenting on this film, because indeed, this film arrived on a day during which I've been very agitated and distracted, but hey! What are you gonna do.
But I can say that I am reminded of another giant monster film with a certain similarity of craziness, "Mighty Peking Man," which has a fever-dream quality, with strange images and tangents flashing by the viewer, hardly provoked, and causing a lot of stupefied head-scratching-----and everything happening to a weird musical score that you can't imagine ever sounded quite "right." (What is up with that weird THEME? Are we supposed to DANCE to it or something? And WHY?)
Astronauts displaying strange space idiocy. Complaining, bitter space doctor. Space girls on the verge of romantic rivalry with each other, yet showering together. 50's-style comedy relief character in the late 60's. "Artificial Water." Okay, so it's synthetic water. But water is water, isn't it? Not this water. This water is fake, "like plastic flowers." RIIIIIIGHT.
You'd think that was enough, but the list goes on. Jumping up and down slowly on the moon in space suits, for no reason I can discern. Plexiglass moon city with go-go beat. Giant silver chicken monster with battery-operated eyes that walks like someone poured itching powder down the back of his suit. Plane flying into monster's head, for no reason I can discern. Actors sporting WEIRD facial expressions at odd and inappropriate times. Is this the cinematic equivalent of those shriveled, wrinkled, crackly hot dogs the guys at the convenience store refuse to throw away, but continue to offer for sale late into the day? Or is this a kind of love?

amphiboid: > What is up with that weird THEME? Are we supposed > to DANCE to it or something? Guess, we're just supposed to relax and enjoy the spectacle ... it's easily one of my favorite Kaiju Eigas.

i've always liked it. the R2 DVD is awesome- even with the weird English dubbed track. i miss the recognizable voices from AIP's version though. it looks great widescreen, that's all i can tell you. Guilala is such an interesting looking creature, one of my favorites.

Oh yes, I very much regreat the fact that I'm watching the pan-and-scan version. The widescreen must be mighty nice, particularly the widescreen shower scene. Did I really say that? Well, I guess I did.
