I can't BELIEVE that this hasn't already been posted here, but Universal is finally getting a clue and releasing their two Kaiju Kongs to coincide with the release of Peter Jackson's KING KONG remake: homevideo.universalstudios.com/title_old.php?titleId=2833The release date is 11/29/05. They're both in anamorphic widescreen, with the English dubs. Don't care too much about the butchered version of KKVG (although it will be nice to have kicking around), but I've been waiting for a restored widescreen English version of KING KONG ESCAPES for years and years...YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

i'm looking forward to this set- i'm most likely gonna preorder it at some point here soon. i even like the covers quite a bit, although i am unclear why they didn't use the cool posters.
a minor quibble, so glad to get these movies LB.

i just got these for Christmas, and am watching KING KONG VS GODZILLA- what a difference letterboxing makes. this is definately one reason to thank PJ for remaking KK, getting these and other great movies and such on DVD.
you certainly can see a lot more detail on this disc. and for such a nice price!

Both are excellent discs! All I need is two black bars, pristine sound and picture quality, nice-looking menus and cover art and I'm a happy camper (though extras don't really hurt ;D )! I'm especially content with KING KONG ESCAPES, even if it isn't one of my absolute favorite Toho fantasy movies.

This is a wonderful set indeed! Call me crazy, but I've always loved the US version of KING KONG VS GODZILLA. Maybe because that was the movie that got me hooked at 3 years old, but even after seeing the uncut Japanese version, which I also love, i still love the US version, while the fanboys trash it. Hey, it was the highest grossing Godzilla film of all time all over the world in both versions, so they had to be doing something right! The disc itself is absolutely beautiful! I broke out my old Goodtimes pan and scan disc of the US version to compare and holy crikey! the difference in prints and dvd image quality is pronounced to say the least!! KING KONG ESCAPES also looks fantastic! Another great movie and long overdue on widescreen disc!!

Anyone who trashes the American version of KING KONG VERSUS GODZILLA is wearing their underwear too tight.

it's really fashionable to trash the US version, at least among the g-nerds. regular fans tend to enjoy both movies.

LOL-Gnerds. These fanboys are just pathetic. I've always liked both versions of the film myself. My particular favorite complaint is when the idiots gripe about the 'cheesy" US music added to the US version-um, hello, that's classic music from CREATURE FROM THE BLACK LAGOON, TARANTULA and even a piece from MAN MADE MONSTER all originally composed by the great Hans J Salter and arranged for KK vs G by Henry Mancini! Hans J Salter I feel is as great a filmic music talent as Ifukube and Mancini is widely regarded as one of the greatest composers of the 20th century. Cheesy US music indeed!

I read one review that complained that most of Mie Hama's footage was cut out. So?She really doesn't do much in the film except berate her brother or scream whenever she sees any of the two monsters.

Haha-I never noticed before, but yeah, you're right, Mie does berate her poor brother alot in that movie! I hope Fujita was paying attention cause sooner or later that'll be him on the recieving end!

it's fun to annoy the nerds by saying how popular the US version in this country until, say, 1993 or so, when the tapes of the Japanese version showed up.

If it wasn't for these much maligned "Americanized" versions most people in the US would have never heard of Godzilla. There would be no G-FAN,no conventions,no toys and models, etc.I think the American versions deserve praise because they actually made the public aware of Gojira.

I don't King Kong vs Godzilla. The notion that the ape could beat Gojira is just silly. King Kong would die of radiation poisoning shortly after coming into contact with the king of the monsters.
And Gojira travels underwater he wouldn't drown.
King Kong vs Godzilla and Godzilla vs Mothra (aka Godziilla vs the Thing) are the one older Godzilla movies I don't want in my collection. I don't want any of the 80s and 90s films. I got rid of my bootlegged VHS tapes long ago. Those films are just dreadful.

King Kong would die of radiation poisoning shortly after coming into contact with the king of the monsters. yeah, but then the family in GODZILLA VS MEGALON and the Zone Family would die as well, since they were in close contact with Godzilla as well.

As with GRA, I'm one of three people in the world that likes both versions. And GRA is in fact my favorite G flick.

I remember how thrilled I was when my dad took me to see KING KONG VS. GODZILLA at a drive-in. It was during the initial US release. I was 7 and just loved it! The only other G film I'd seen before this was GODZILLA RAIDS AGAIN, but it was under the title GIGANTIS, THE FIRE MONSTER on our local TV station. It was a couple more years before I finally saw the original GODZILLA, KING OF THE MONSTERS.

They are whimsical films where you get to see guys in rubber lizard suits bust out some kung fu and pro wrestling moves. Damn I thought Star Wars fans tired to make the SW mythos unlovable, Godzilla fans seem to be as opinionated.

oh, hardcore Godzilla nerds can really suck the fun out of any movie at all. i'd say that was true about any fan(atic) of any movie, book, tv show, sports team, you name it. they suck. literally, they put the TIC in fanatic.
