Continuing the discussion of the upcoming 50th Anniversary Godzilla movie.
So where were we?

I actually saw a preview in the theater (went to see Harry Potter 3 with the host family) although it wasn't much beyond Godzilla roaring, the t i t l e, and a Narrator saying "Godzilla: Final Wars".
What was interesting is that an SD cartoon Godzilla & co. did the "No Smoking, No Pictures, No Talking, Turn off Cell Phones, etc." advisory after the previews.

I'm guessing you saw it in Japan?

He's been in Japan a month now? I think. I like the way Godzilla looks, and am glad he'll be able to move around again.

The suit designs look pretty cool to me. I like the armor panels on Rodan's chest and legs.
Anyone else think this is the swansong of suitmation as the primary method of realizing giant monsters on screen, at least from our friends at Toho?

Honestly, I like the concept that Toho is going with. If this is, indeed, the last Godzilla movie for atleast another ten years, why not go out with a bang? I like the suit design for Godzilla, and some of the other kaiju sketches that I've seen look impressive (mainly Manda, King Seesar and Hedorah). But others kinda rub me the wrong way, especially Gigan. I took one look at that sketch, and was like "Alright, that ain't Gigan!" Rodan looks cool, although it'd been cool if they made him a bit more majestic. As far as I'm seeing, Toho has never quite gotten Rodan right since the 60s. But that's just me ranting about my two favorite kaiju in the film! ;D I look forward to seeing the movie.

I hope they don't make this TOO much about the soldiers, etc. I want good characters, but I also want loads of monster action.

The mutant soldiers are going to be fighting the monsters, so you get both -- monster action and military action. I'm looking forward to Kane Kosugi's motorcycle scene where they try to defend Japan's EDF HQ from Gigan!
BTW, with Akira Takarada, Kumi Mizuno and Kenji Sahara in the supporting cast, how could you go wrong?

Since the announcement of all of the monsters that are returning, I'm overjoyed and want to know some more tib bits, yet at the same time I don't like to see spoilers! I'm also excited to see Akira Takarada, Kumi Mizuno and Kenji Sahara in this feature. I hope their roles are of significance. And I believe that this marks the first time all three veteran actors are in the same Godzilla movie, let along a kaiju. I do know that they were in "Chushingura: 47 Samurai", but for a kaiju feature, I believe this is a first!

As I consult my memory banks, I do believe you are correct about those three vets never having co-starred in a tokusatsu. Takarada and Mizuno co-starred twice (MZ, Sea Monster) and so did Sahara and Mizuno (Matango, Gargantuas), but I can't think of a tokusatsu feature with all three of them.
Wait - weren't Sahara and Mizuno both in GORATH as well?

Yes, they were in "Gorath" although they didn't share any scenes together.
You could also count "Frankenstein Conqueres the World", but Sahara only had a bit part in that one and was never seen with Mizuno. (At least in the American version. I've never seen the Japanese one).

It seems like there are a lot of elements being mixed into this movie, 13+ monsters, Gorath, the Goten, the mutant soldiers etc. I'm sure it can be done, but it'll take a good script.

Unless I am mistaken, you may be a little muddled there. We were talking about GORATH, but it isn't in FINAL WARS. Right?

Could be- I thought I had read somewhere that the Xians were sending a "Gorath" type meteor to Earth. But I've stayed away from the plot of the new movie as much as I could, so it's not too far off to say I'm confused!

I've yet to read anything about GORATH in this film.I do hope all the monsters get plenty of screentime, rather than a cheap cop out of stock footage like in GODZILLA X MECHAGODZILLA.

Unless I am mistaken, you may be a little muddled there. We were talking about GORATH, but it isn't in FINAL WARS. Right? Wrong. And has anyone seen the new Gigan pictures? He looks amazing, easily one of, if not the, coolest looking kaiju right now. Great revamp. I admit I was disappointed he was changed so much when I first saw the concept art, but the suit is just too cool looking. Good to see Gigan back in action and looking so cool.

Nice to see you Gman. Gigan is a little too "Alien"-like right now, but should look pretty cool in action. I thought I'd heard something about Gorath being in the movie.

Anyone else notice that the revamped Gigan has the same basic color scheme as the "supposed" color design as Monster X?

I get the feeling that Gigan will also be controlled by the aliens. This could set up a monster tag team match like the good old days!
