Since buying the DVD, I've watched GODZILLA FINAL WARS in its entirety only twice; the first time I saw it, and yesterday morning after work. It really is a movie that you can't go into looking for cinematice brilliance. I can honestly say that I enjoyed this movie for alot of the wrong reasons. But at the same time, I haven't had this much fun watching a Godzilla movie since the days of old Showa (the 50s, 60s and 70s movies, I watch quite frequently). As a film in itself, GFW belongs to the "so bad, it's good" category. Boy, that's kind of ironic, coming from a Godzilla fan, isn't it? ;D But anyway, to put it bluntly, GODZILLA FINAL WARS is very fun to watch, however, its a movie that is very easy to put away and forget about. It belongs to that "odd-ball" list of series entries, such as GODZILLA RAIDS AGAIN, GODZILLA'S REVENGE, GODZILLA VS. THE SMOG MONSTER and GMK. Not a bad thing, by any means.

i really like the movie- it's not the best, but it certainly is more fun than any Godzilla movie in 30 years, that's for sure.

Boy, I enjoyed it so much, I almost think it was made just for me. Obviously, I am killing fandom.

I love this movie. It took me back to the days of Saturday afternoon Godzilla marathons on TV when I was little. My kids really liked this movie and some of my friends were over and loved it as well. I totally marked out when The real Godzilla bitchslapped and punked out the fake GINO. MinyaMinilla was an awesome treat, I don't care what anyone says I like the little Dude. Damn Xeno crew, I sat there and argued with a buddy because he kept telling me Minya was Godzookie!

I have to agree with everyone-I LOVED this movie! SO did my kids and my wife liked it too. All of the "mainstream" friends of mine that have seen it liked it allot too, everyone absolutely loves when the real Big G toasts the Pretender to the Throne as the chapter guide menu says. It's really a shame this film did not do well in Japan as it does really capture the spirit of the Showa films. I thought GFW along with the 2 Kiryu films were the best Godzillas Toho had done since reviving the series, as they all hearken back strongly to the feel of the Showa series, GFW especially. GFW would be a great starting point for a new series too as you have Godzilla and Minya swimming off at the end, stalwart Godzilla allies Rodan, Angilas and King Seesar were not killed and freed from Xillian control would revert to their natural status, so a new Monster Island could be established. And you know a new Mothra will be hatched, if the old one is even dead, that is kind of ambiguous as she's shown returning to Infant island in the end credits, but that might be an outtake- I don't know. It could be the Showa era all over again!

FINALLY saw this film Christmas Eve.EXCELLENT!!!!To paraphrase Billy Crystal's Fernando Godzilla looked marvelous.I didn't think the film suffered due to the musical score,I enjoyed most of the comedy, the monsters looked awesome,Don Frye makes a good Nick Fury wannabe, and yes I do believe Mothra was alive at the end of the film.My interpretation is that it was reborn in the flames of it's own destruction, like a phoenix. My only real complaint is the two "American" actors seen briefly in the south pole. These guys are worse actors than the ones that appear in english language instructional videos I had to sit through in high school down in Mexico.Godzilla is about to blast these two dweebs and all they do is stand there like they're waiting for a bus.I guess the scene was meant to be funny but it just didn't work for me.

all i know is how much fun it was to watch, unlike a lot of the post 75 movies, which tend to be rather ponderous, trying to be something they are not. i do think the movie could be edited by at least 20 minutes, mostly of the fun but rather needless martial arts scenes, and it would be even more fun.
but that's me.
