Watched this gorgeous 2.35:1 transfer twice since picking it up (rather pricey, the lowest I could find it was 19.99 at BEST BUY) Tuesday. Alien roaches disguised as guys in orange suits (the leader wears a pink shirt) hide in Godzilla Tower in Children's Land as King Ghidorah and Gigan approach. Meanwhile, the hero, a comic illustrator teams up with some losers as Godzilla and Anguirus swim to the rescue. Happy ending but we're reminded that roaches will inherit the earth! An absurd film which I find very entertaining and once the monster bash starts it's pretty good stuff even if it starts out like a Jerry Lewis movie without Jerry Lewis. Gigan is a favorite monster with that buzzsaw in his gut, now more detailed than ever in these crystal clear elements. The color is stunning throughout. Note the wide array of blues and the rainbow of control panel lights. Seeing this widescreen makes me appreciate Fukuda's talent for filling each frame with fun details like comic book art, models, mannequins, etc., and lots of wild titled shots and ultra wide angle lenses. Very readable yellow English subs and lots of very odd dialogue on the Japanese track that of course didn't make it in translation. Looks and sounds terrific. I guess I spring for G VS HEDORAH next.

These 3 new discs give you the option to watch in dubbed English language or the original Japanese track with English subs or in French.

I bought the box set with Gigan, Hedorah, and G '98 for $40 at Deep Discount. Boils down to about $13.50 a disc, or $20 each with the Matthew Broderick film tossed in for free. ;D
Cheapest I've seen them individually is $19.50 at the same site. They are great discs, that's for sure.

at least you get a nice coaster - only thing gino is good for. these are really nice discs, and since most of us pair $20 for subbed VHS tapes years ago, i think we should consider that.

Most cheapo DVDs give you a losuy fullscreen print and no subs. On occasion, you might find a widescreen version offered by Goodtimes, but they're usually long OOP. They've put out some surprisingly good DVDs for a cheaper studio.

I really wouldn't consider the kong kong dvd cheap since it was an import at fifteen bucks, but that is still less expensive than sony's arm and a leg dvds.

i remember when we were paying $20 for subtitled bootleg tapes and we were happy about it! i know these DVDs at $20 are pretty pricey, but when you think it's a niche audience that will buy them, and they have both language tracks, and will never wear out, it's a pretty good deal. and i we support them, we will get more cool stuff!

Sadly I am on a fixed income.I guess I can wait until they sell them as overstock or show up at the used dvd stores.

By all accounts, the HK DVDs were the crappiest of crap. At least a couple were fullscreen, but not pan & scan - rather, they stayed parked dead in the middle of the picture regardless of what was onscreen.

The Sony GIGAN dvd is magnificent-I've never seen this film look so vibrant, noty even on the old laserdisc of the New World version from the 80s I used to have that was also from Toho.It was honestly like seeing the film for the first time,it's that good of a print!

It's great seeing a most sentimental favorite of mine in this fashion. I don't even need extras. All of the Sony discs are first-class product, without question. Let's just hope they continue to follow suit.
