I'm not really sure which thread exactly this weird movie fits into, but here's as good as any i guess. This was a samurai yokai movie from the guy that directed the Sakuya movie and it was pretty good. There's a bunch of Kappas(they each look different too, nice touch) that sound like Kamikaras and some spider geishas and Kibakichi, the hero. He's a wolfman yokai/samurai wandering Japan in the 1700s. The humans are at this time actively wiping out the Yokai and previously killed Kibakichi's peaceful village of wolfyokai after he inadvertantly led them there. Kiba falls in with an isolated village of yokai that are attempting to ally with some yakuza to take over some local government office. Kiba warns them against trusting humans, but no one listens and, as expected, the yakuza betray their yokai buddies and attack the village with a huge machine gun mounted on a cart , hand held machin gun type weapons and hand grenades! Now up to this point the movie was good but fairly routine-lotsa samurai action and some monsters, but now Kiba gets real mad and turns into a full body suit wolfman with a Paul naschy-esque face and a roar borrowed from Gaira! OK, that got my attention! Then the gaira wolfman starts jumping around and killing the yakuza samurai until a bad yokai cyclops that sounds like Titanosaurus arrives to fight! The monsters punch and explosion sound effects also come straight from classic Showa era Toho films! Great stuff! It all ends with some KILL BILL style blood spray from torn off limbs and heads. I love a happy ending! there's a second film coming out on disc in March which i hope is as cool as the first one.
