nope- according to Garasharp that is the dub he listened to for years before we heard it over here. i saw it from a PAL tape at least ten years ago, i think.
i believe the dub came from William Ross Agency, but i am not sure. i don't think it's one of the HK dubs, but someone else will know for sure. listening to it lets you know why it was re-dubbed for US tv, that's for sure.

Yeah, I much prefer the Fernandez dub, definitely. And Speed Racer's voice adds class to anything.
Sony and Toho get points for the simply amazing crystal clarity of the image, though, and the stereo sound mix. The original Japanese language soundtrack sounds extremely good.

It is indeed by William Ross. If you listen carefully, there is an in-joke that is not in either the Japanese version or the US dub. The businessman who owns the stolen yacht is identified as "Walter Reiner." This is a combination of the names of Walter Manley and Ivan Reiner, men you may recall from their involvement in THE GREEN SLIME and other Japanese sci-fi.
I have a PAL transfer taped from British TV of the film with this dubbing under the title EBIRAH, HORROR OF THE DEEP.

that's what i thought- gee, i wonder who i got that movie from originally?  does the title come up Ebirah or Sea Monster? |

EBIRAH. That's the Toho International title for it. I dunno about the current DVD. If it has SEA MONSTER on there, they did it for the new release.
