I've seen the original GODZILLA (American version with Raymond Burr) at Best Buy for $5.99. I will pick it up eventually.

the prices they're asking for are pretty ridiculous.
$55 for a 3 disc set of 2 older catalog titles and one that has been on DVD since the BEGINNING of DVD? Bleh.
Yeah, they better be available individually, I'm not spending money for duplicates of stuff I already have.

I sure hope the DVDs themselves are better than the covers. Yuck! Ah well, I'll be getting them individually as well, even if I have to have such hideous cover art sitting on my shelf. Is it me, or would it not be easier to just take the original film artwork/posters and us that, instead of spending time to have a bum off the street play with Paintshop Pro to make those? This is Gman, praying for unbeleivable quality on these three releases.

Well, the DVDs should be great quality, if the source material comes from Toho. I already have better covers that Kyle from the Gamera site made- just excellent ones.

I don't really mind the quality of the covers anymore. Box-art for all of the Godzilla movies in the states has been cheesy. That's the way the series is perceived. Why not make that the selling-point? I, myself am not so simplistic in my own reckoning of the Godzilla movies, but I accept the fact that this is a part of the Big Guy's appeal in most parts of the world outside of Japan.
But anyway, there's no way in hell that I'm buying those box-sets if the DVDS are the same ones that have been available for the last six or so years. I'll probably end up buying Gigan, Hedorah and Mechagodzilla individually, and that'll be the end of it. There's not much point in buying the same ole' sh*t twice, is there? It would have been nice if they had gotten a hold of movies like GHIDRAH, SEA MONSTER and GIGANTIS. But oh well, I guess.

I thought Son of Godzilla and Sea Monster were in the titles Sony is going to release. Perhaps this is just the first round of movies.

Think they pressed too many gino discs? Did they press more than one? If so, then yes.

From what I understand these are wide screen original toho prints using their international dub. I'm a bit hazy on if *all* the new releases are doing this or just the *very new* releases such as Toykyo SOS, but it will be double sided with the english dub on one side and on the other it will habe the original Japanese track with english subs.

Tri-Star still have the rights to "Son of Godzilla", "Godzilla vs. the Sea Monster" and GMMG. Those three DVDs will be released later, probaly around the holidays or early next year. According to KPA "Ghidorah" and "Raids Again" is unable to be brought to DVD due to the quality of the english tracks, which apparently is not up to snuff for DVD. They'll be picked up when someone, or Toho, does something about the english audio....which may be a long time.

I think the other problem is that both Gigantis and Ghidrah were recut a bit, making the US versions different than Toho's. I'd buy the Sea Monster and Son DVDs for sure.

Forgot to mention I did pick up the original "G" at Best Buy last August for $5.99. Good deal BTW. It was 1 of only 2 copies they had left. However, there were rows of $5.99 GINO disks as far as the eye could see. There were so many I thought they'd start handing them out free just for entering the store. Reminded me of Arnold's Christmas comedy, JINGLE ALL THE WAY. I just saw both "Sea Monster" and "Son" on the DVD (A birthday gift from my sister). Wonderful prints and it was great to see them in widescreen. Now, there are some who would say that they will never see the dub versions again after seeing these. Well, for me, because I grew up watching them, I will never forget them, but I now actually have even more respect for guys like Hal Linden and Peter Fernandez!
Both pretty much stuck to the lines the actors originally said. There were no outrages statements (Oh Banana oil!). And they just didn’t read the lines like so many other bad dubs (the HK ones sometimes come to mind) but they emoted the same as what the original actors did! I now realize that dubbing is not that easy as it seems and these guys did a total professional job. Plus the fact that voices in some of the minor actors wasn’t as deep and that I actually prefer Peter with his good strong voice talking for them!! Heck, if I were in a movie, my voice is not that great either, I would also want Peter to dub me using the Speed Racer voice! ;D

another thing is Peter often wrote the dubbing scripts for these movies as well. he always did a fine job, a true professional.

Regarding SEA MONSTER:
I went to BesyBuy yesterday and saw MATANGO there, but SEA MONSTER looked more appealing, so I got that instead.
The Fernandez dub was done for a trimmed TV cut.
Who did the English dub for the new full-length Sony release?
Some of the voice performances "sound" old, but overall it appears to be a recently-done job. Is my supposition correct?
