Gone with the Wind, Steel Magnolias, Pretty Woman, and Divine Secrets of the Ya Ya Sisterhood scare the tar out of me! Not really but my Wife subjects these movies to me and the first thousand times I begrudingly hate to admit they weren't bad and I was totally secure in my manhood because I could watch chick flicks with my Wife. Then she had to start bragging on me. Oh man, I was told I was kicked out of the He Man Woman Hater's Club. Damn you Spanky! Damn you Alfalfa! Damn you Buckwheat, ohtay! ;D Seriously though, hmmmm...., you can never go wrong with the Classic Universal movies. I tell you once I get Monster Squad on DVD watching it during the Halloween season will probably become a tradition between me and the kids.

Gone with the Wind, Steel Magnolias, Pretty Woman, and Divine Secrets of the Ya Ya Sisterhood scare the tar out of me! I have not seen any of those. So I guess I'm safe.

It's not *super scary* but it is a Halloween favorite of mine... Night of the Demon. This year I think we'll be watching VIY while handing out candy to the locals.

There's something about NIGHT/CURSE that I just find timeless and infinately entertaining. I actually prefer the longer NIGHT version because the unexpurgated scenes add an underlying feeling of creepiness and a better flow to the story. VIY is Alexandr Ptushko's only horror movie. It's about a preacher who has to sit vigil overnight in a church with a dead witch. It has his typical random outburst of Russian folk singing bits but also some good humor and the scary parts are very well done. If you can imagine the type of effects Ptushko does in his fantasy movies applied to horror... it's pretty impressive. The ghost and demons remind me of a lot of the modern Japanese supernatural horror movies, but actually well-done and *scary looking*. I just did a search and someone posted the whole movie, with subs on youtube youtube.com/watch?v=hRciY7aQBAk in 8 parts. The DVD from Ruscico is really nice though. ruscico.com/detail.php?lang=en&film=1

i always call it CURSE, since that's the title i saw it under first (it was the Goodtimes LP VHS, with the US title but the English cut after it). i did see it on the big screen once, the US version, and couldn't understand why it was edited- i never knew there were two versions of the movie. it sure moves a lot faster, but really there were no reasons to cut the movie at all.
the Russian movie sounds very interesting!
i think i'll also watch a Yokai movie!

I highly recommend VIY, it's high fantasy in the Ptushko tradition with a lot of great horror and monster type elements. Here are some nice pics from VIY just to give you a feel for the ambiance of the last half hour. img233.imageshack.us/my.php?image=viyscenesyp7.jpgSpeaking of Yokai, the live action GeGeGe No Kitaro should be out on R2 by now. Think I'll go looking for that.

In case anyone is into audio drama I found some fan made Jonny Quest www.brokensea.com/jonnyquest it's actually pretty well done. Yeah, me and the wife have mundane stuff to do tonight until 7, but have some emergency candies if there's any late Halloweenies dropping by once we get home.

That's a great eville face! We have Daci's twin sister at home. Looks almost the same as your cat but with less brown in the face.
