Remember the flack when Coke Cola changed their formula? Actually they've all changed. When I was a kid there was a very clear difference betwen 7 UP and Sprite (the only lemon-lime soda pops available in Lincoln, Nebraska at the time). 7 UP had a bight to it. Sprite was sweeter. I prefered 7 UP. Now all the lemon-lime soda pops (7UP, Sprite, Sierra Mist, Shasta and all the store brands) are all pretty much the same, too sweet. Dr Pepper used to be better too. It's lost its pep. I haven't been able to find a really good rootbear in years. Originally root beer was made from sassafras. You'll look in vain for sassafras in the ingredients printed on the cans. And that's another thing, all the soda pops were better when they came in glass bottles, which required a special tool to open. Bartenders used to have to open the bottles and punch holes in the cans, wether serving soda pop to kids or beer to adults. I miss the hiss of the bottle being opend and the clank of the bottle top hitting the floor or counter top. Now they even have screw top champagne bottles. (sigh)

I miss getting movies as Super-8 reels (sigh).....
Those were the days......(sigh) (drinks)
However, I would like to recommend a STEWART'S brand GINGER BEER, it is the only soda being produced in the world today that I know is worth drinking. It has so much ginger extract in it that it's almost scary!
I tried their root beer and that was good, but it was the ginger beer that turned my head.

i've read why Coca-cola tastes different- it's the sucrose and fructose sort of thing- they use one instead of the other now. and it's different in different parts of the country.
i'd say Dr. Pepper tastes different since they quit using polyethylene glycol in it, but since i can't stand the stuff either way i don't really know. i do know what the "secret" ingredient in though... PRUNES!
i like 7 Up OK, but i always preferred Bubble Up- try finding that anywhere now!
i do love soda from bottles- just much better. over in TJ, Mexico, you can get soda in bottles- any kind. i am not sure why, but that's pretty much all they serve over there. even pepsi tastes decent out of a bottle!

I don't know if its still there but there was at one time a local resteraunt/mini brewery downtown that beside making its own alchoholic beer aslo made their own root beer and ginger beer. I tried the ginger beer once. I didn't like it, too much ginger. They took it away and gave me a root beer instead. No extra charge. Their root beer was great. I liked it better than their real beer, but then I'm not a big beer drinker. My German ancestors would be disappointed in me. I'm not sure if its still there because I rarely go downtown.
