I've been using this handle off and on for a little while, so I thought I'd go with it as a display name. No one seems too confused so far. I think the hacker has probably gotten exactly what he/she wanted - namely, pointing up how inefficient ezboard is. We shall see, we shall see.

Huh, sorry about the double post. I'm getting error messages for some reason.

Sorry it took me so long to come back to this thread. In case you haven't figured it out since the 3rd, here's how bookmarking works. Say you bookmark now and leave the board for the night. Then you come back to the board tomorrow and 5 posts have been made on that thread. You will find one PM in your inbox to tell you that something new is on that thread. I don't remember if you have to open that PM, click on the link in it, or delete it, but doing one of those three things will cause another PM to be sent to you the next time someone replies to that thread. Now... You can have an email sent to you when someone replies to a thread, but you have to set you PM preferences to email you every time you receive a PM. This means you'll not only get email notifications for replies to a thread, but you'll also get email notifications every time someone sends you a PM. If you're here every day, you could set your PM preferences to give you a popup instead of an email, or you could do both. I hope this clears up the whole bookmarking thing. I like phpBB is a pretty good board program. If it weren't for concerns about the bandwidth that a semi-busy board gets, I probably would have pressed Kym to move the Whoosh board over to the whoosh.org domain and give me admin access to the site so I could more fully customize it. I don't think they have a way to customize individual forums without having to use javascript though, and I prefer to stay away from JS as a necessity and only like to use it for little 'extras' -- I even use CSS for image rollovers instead of JS -- because too much relies on whether the user has javascript enabled or not. Anyway, having the ability to customize individual forums without javascript is a nice feature of ProBoards, but if you want one uniform look throughout the board and like to have unlimited customizability otherwise, phpBB is a great choice! And who knows... someone probably has, or could, write a modification to customize different forums individually. You know? Now that I think of it, I think I've learned enough of the php language to come up with a way myself, lol. I just didn't have much PHP knowledge back when I had my own phpBB running, so I know I couldn't have done it back then. My co-admin just informed me tonight that we have about a month's worth of posts missing at the old ezWhoosh board, but they only brought back one of the three chapters of an ongoing story thread that our writers participate in. Luckily we brought them to the ProBoard when we first moved a little over a year ago, and since those are the only threads I think would really be missed, then it's no big loss for us. I wonder what ezboard plans on doing about the money lost in Community Chests? Are they going to make the donators prove that they donated? What if they didn't save any receipts and don't remember when they paid? I'm glad you're leaving ezboard, Lunkhead. I wouldn't be surprised if the hacker was somebody they know.

People like that usually just care about causing a stir, but if this whole thing has helped people to see the light about those jerks, then maybe there is a silver lining in this mess after all. I think ezboard should locate and refund anyone's money who wants to leave ezboard.
See, if the cracker really wanted to do a service to people, they wouldn't have deleted all that stuff from the database. Instead, they could have simply put a message at the top of every board saying how incompetent they are, or sent PM's to every user to that effect. The 2nd method would've probably brought the network down for a little while from all the extra PM traffic and it would've irritated people for that reason, but no real harm would've been done because no one would have had to lose money or posts. If I had the ability and were vindictive enough and brave enough, I would probably opt for the PM method. It's a fun thought, but I'd never have the balls to do it, lol.

Hi Gig! Thanks for the info on the bookmark/PM/email options. I'll figure it out now. I also appreciate your comments on the phpBB2 boards. If you want to see my new one, here's the link => www.lunkhead.net/board/phpBB2So far, I'm really enjoying it. I hear ya about the customizing - fiddled with some php before so eventually I'll get it looking more how I want it. For now though, it's a nice steady board and I'm so glad to be done with EZ. This sure woke me up to their incompetency. **************************************** Megs, 'fraid there's bad news about the old Xenorama. Stupidboard's latest update says they've finished restoring everything possible and are done. I checked the old EZ Xeno and it's still blank. Please accept my condolences. That really sucks thinking about all the fun threads that were there.

Rest in pieces... Megs, I added a post at my old ezboard because the banner has a link to my new board (hey, it's free advertising). Not sure if it'll get exported to Yuku, but what the heck. You might want to do that at the old EZ-Xeno, for advertising too. BTW, is Yuku a distant cousin of Yugioh?
