Pretty wild, but I got a call this morning from a place I interviewed at a month ago and guess what - they made me an offer! Even though I just started training at the tour company, this other position really is better for me and my family, so I accepted. The work is steady (as opposed to the tour company which I found was going to vary) and they have OT at time and a half. The tour company understood when I called them and were very nice about it. Funny how fast things can change!

Well I finally found a job I can do with vertigo! Im doing customer surveys for Verizon-it's fairly boring although i do get a laugh out of ignorant people( and there are SO MANY of them out there!). Still the point that I can FINALLY go back to work is awesome enough! Unfortunately the hours are 9-5 M-F, which is actually great, but I don't have time to get on-line like I used to. It's 50 miles south from my house, but just a few minutes from my wife's office, so that makes it better. The ride is an hour each way, and it was really boring for my wife when she was doing it by herself. My wife also got some awesome news, the place she worked for years just hired her back as a second in charge of the accounting department and she's getting a huge increase in pay to go with it! She always loved this place but left because she was ill and they just didn't have any higher positions for her at the time-this postion she just got was pretty much what she wanted before, but it didn't exist. SO between both of our new jobs our income has just more than doubled! It will be so nice to have money again and not have to worry about how to pay bills and buy food, and even be able to do a little extra stuff for a change( like buy that upcoming Stooges box set!!!!)

So glad to hear that, Mike. Congrats!!! I'm still enjoying my new job, but sometimes the hours are very long. For instance: Today, I started working at 7:30am and didn't get home until 10:00 tonight. I was pretty bleary by that point. It was an extreme day, but I normally get at least one or two hours OT every day - and getting home at 7:00 or 8:00 at night is fairly routine. But hey, I'm bringing some green into the scene!

I got a phone call [not cell] at ten thirty (central time) this morning asking me to come in for a job interview at two thirty this afternoon. That's about an hour and a half from now. I hope this actually leads me to employment. Discouraging to have interviews that seem to go well but lead to nothing.

I'm employed. I learned Wendesday morning that my previous employer had been contacted. And then in the afternoon I got the call offering me the job. I went in for 4 hours of training already tonight and more traiing in the morning. Then they're appreciating previous employees and welcoming new ones with a free dinner in the evening. Not payed for that but I rarely turn down free meals.

I forgot to mention that all the employees who attended the dinner, including two of us who had been with the company less than 2 days got a cash bonus. I got $35 (already spent).
I'm now in retail, at an office supply store, part of a world wide chain. Even after my brief experience cashering I can see how poorly other companies train their people (assuming they train them at all). Every resteraunt and every other store I've been to has failed to train their cashiers to count out the change. Just handing the customer their change, without even saying how much it is, is lousy customer service. Of course most stores seem to have forgotten service. My manager would fire me if I let customers wander around for an hour without being asked if they needed any assistanc, my usual expeirence at Best Buy for example. Circuit City its about 15 minutes. If I'm on the floor I'm not supposed to let a customer go 20 seconds without offering my assistance.
One of my managers used to work at another store and she told me about a pair of identitcal twins who work there. One will ask a customer if they require any assistance and a few seconds later the other will walk through and ask too and the customers will say "I just told you that I'm just browsing". Or she'd tell one to do something then ask the other if he did it.

My Wife is looking for a new job. Long story short she was the Operations Manager for one of the local Sonics. The District Manager and his District Supervisor came from Waffle House. They practice nepotism of sorts and put their freinds from Waffle House in management positions in Sonic. They came up with a convoluted BS reason to ditch my Wife and her Genral Manager and put in some Waffle Hopuse buddies in their place. Not many of the crew remains either. Since Mississippi is a right to work state they have no legal recourse even though they easily proved discrimination towards non Waffle House employees. As a result we had to move in with my folks. Karma is a bitch and they will get their's one day. Funny enough that the numbers have fallen badly since they got rid of my Wife and her GM as once again their Waffle House buddies are showing they can't do the job. Screw em, if the owners would rather placate a bunch of folks just handed their positions thatn folks that earned them then they get what they ask for.

Seems like a good company with a good rep.
