Hi guys,
I wanted to let everyone know I'm starting a new career this weekend. I'll be driving one of those big rigs you see going by on the highway. This is a great opportunity for me, but my online life is going to be pretty much nil as I get started. I'm going to be offline most of the time for at least the next few weeks, however I plan on getting a laptop at some point and look into mobile internet options.
Just didn't want you to think I fell off the face of the earth or something if you don't see me for a while.
Everyone take care, and I'll be back when I can, Lunk

My brother decided that he didn't really want to be a chef. He and his best friend took a course at a Communicty College, got their license and are now driving for a living. They had hoped to get hired by the same company and to eventually be able to take turns driving the big rig but they got hired by different companies. Right now they're each driving with experienced drivers. Eventually they'll each be on their own.

Yep, there are many options and choices with driving once you get a year's experience.

I know this sounds crazy, but I'm back home already. To make a long story short, being separated from my family was not going to work. Everything was going fine with training. I was passing the company tests and learning to drive over-the-road with a trainer. The driving part was going well, but as I got deeper into it, the realization of not being around my kids on a daily basis really started to get to me. It was a concern even before I went away. But sometimes, you just have to try things to see if they can work. It was still a good experience. I would have always wondered if I hadn't tried. An over-the-road trucking career is a totally different type of life-style. It's great for some people, but just not my cup of tea. However, my CDL license is still a valuable asset. I've applied for a couple local jobs which look good and have many more to check out. Should be back to work pretty soon. Man, that was a real quick trip, wasn't it?

A little rough right now, Megs. I'm working at a limo company which is a nice fill-in while looking for a full time job. I do have some hopeful interviews coming up tomorrow and the following day. Thanx.

Well, those interviews didn't avail much. It's getting very frustrating. Just gotta keep on keepin on.

Sorry to hear it's so frustrating Lunk! You definitely gotta keep hangin on!! I know how you feel-it's almost 2 years since I got this vertigo and it's still quite bad. The one job I had at Verizon Wireless they did away with and I have not been able to find anything i can do since then. I'm trying to pursue an art career, and I am having some luck-the work for hippocampus, but that won't be used for a year or more, so I don't know how that will turn out. I'm biting the bullet and applying for Social Security Disability, since I can't do any jobs, or eeven drive for that matter! I couldn't even use our new riding lawn mower because it made me so dizzy!

Thanks, Mike. Sorry to hear about your situation too. I hope things work out for you.
The limo place I'm working at temporarily is starting to give me lots of work, which I'm thankful for, but it's all kinds of crazy hours day and night and with little notice. I basically don't have a life right now and it makes it even harder to look for a normal job. When they call me, I gotta run for the dough's sake. Lack of sleep is the worst. I can't wait for things to change.

I feel you. I can't work because of my back and I absolutely hate it. Keep your head up Bro. Filing for disability is hard on the ego, but some things are beyond your control.
I hope everything works out for you as well Lunk.

Finally, I have a full-time job again!! Hurray! I'm scheduled to start training next week. I'll be driving tour buses of various sizes and classic trolleys. Looks like a decent company and a fun place to work.
Somehow, I knew I'd wind in a job similar to one of my heroes - Ralph Kramden.... AND LOVING IT!

My brother likes Austin, Texas for some reason and is thinking of moving there. He thinks he can get a job driving dump trucks or something, to gain the experience that will let him apply for a better paying over the road driving position.

That's great news Lunk! Before I even got to the bottom of your post i thought of old Ralphie Boy! Nothing's changed on my end-it takes up to 5 months to even get an appointment with disability. However, there's a medicine I'm going to try. It's worked really well for alot of people on a vertigo forum board I check out, so i'm really hoping that it will help me too.

Ah screw em Megs, this way you are free to get back to what you do best, plus the pay has got to be infinitely better than the flower shop.
