Someone mentioned this at the LOTL forums. I read the description and it rang a bell in the dusty backwaters of my memory. I now feel I must find this and watch it, because it seems pretty awful, in a good way. www.badmovies.org/movies/unknownisle/index.html

i actually like the movie- i rented it from NetFlix, it was in color and everything. as long as you don't expect Jurassic Park dinosaurs it's pretty entertaining.

I was surprised at how good it was, considering I had no expectations going in. I'd bought it for my sons, figured they'd enjoy the dinos, and found myself liking it. I haven't seen it in about a year; I'll have to fire it up again I think.

OK then, I'm talked into it. That was hard huh? Another one that goes in the Land that Time Forgot section of American rubber suit monsters.

i was pleasantly surprised by liking this one. it's not my typical type of movie, but it's just got something about it.

I remember reading about it in the Dinosaur magazine that was released around the same time Jurassic Park came out. It was part of an extensive article that discussed nearly ever dinosaur movie made (at the time). The review was favorable and the author said the movie was more lively than a lot of stop-motion movies. I found that rather interesting.

The Ceratosaurs sound a lot like monkeys, and the Megatherium or giant ground sloth had a striking resemblence to a gorilla! Funny.

this movie would be more fondly remembered if the monsters were better, which is sad, since the rest of it holds up so well.

yeah, the pulp adventure story part of it is what looks appealing to me. The dinos-suits in The Land That Time Forgot were far superior to this and other dino-suit movies. But even the toku dinos look much better than this.
And the idea of scale is laughable since you see those theropods standing next to sage brush that is as tall as they are. The little human peg-legs coming out of the bottom of those suits are almost cute! Looks like a baby's halloween costume.

Just watched this movie and I really liked a lot of it. It reminds me of a debauched, live action Jonny Quest. The pulpiness and adventure atmosphere is a lot of fun an actually the live action sets are pretty cool. There's a really twisted sense of humor about the whole thing that I think they meant to portray and it comes off well without being "too much".
The dinos are just completely awful though and the psuedo KK vs Dino fight toward the end is pretty fun. Those poor guys in the sauropod suits just shuffling around in the desert are really funny.
The freaky tinted color is really interesting to look at and reminds me of the look a lot of photographic Artistes try to achieve with their images.

I purchased this DVD recently with my last stooge set off Amazon and watched it a couple weeks back. I hadn't seen UNKNOWN ISLAND maybe since the early '70s, but it was on a lot in the late '60s on one of our UHF channels. I remembered liking it a lot, even though as a kid I could tell how the dinos were done. It's still a very fun film with a decent cast. As mentioned, the Cinecolor also gives it a dreamlike feel. Somehow, I'd always remembered Richard Denning's sailor shirt with large red stripes when in reality, his shirt wasn't all that gaudy after all. Funny how you think you remember movie things sometimes.
