Hoo boy, this movie is WAY more fun than it should be! I first saw this on Chiller Theatre which ran on our local CBS affiliate in the late 70s and early 80s. The "host" was a face attached to a guy's chin(stick-on goggle eyes, etc) and filmed upside down, so it looked like a really bizaare looking man. It was the same intro every week, but it really sticks in my memory for the sheer oddity of it! They showed mainly AIP movies. I think it ended in 1981 or 82, but we had an independent UHF station by that time that started "Theatre Bizaare" which showed 3 movies every friday night! Anyways, I really liked this as a kid(I was probably 9 or 10 when I saw it), even though i knew it was cheesy even then. I'd love to see the original uncut version with Reptilicus' flying scenes. Oddly, there were a couple of tie-ins AIP liscensed when they released this- a paperback novel and a comic book series. The novel, from what I've seen, extensively changes the story by adding sex scenes! Reptilicus doesn't appear in them thankfully! The comic series was alot cooler. It was done by my favorite company-Charlton who also were producing Konga and Gorgo series around this time. In a money saving move, Charlton actually only produced 2 issues of Reptilicus, then changed the character's name to Reptisaurus and changed his color from green to red, sometimes adding a nasal horn(it varies from issue to issue!), and had their own "original" character so they could continue the series, but not pay AIP any liscencing fees! They didn't even change the numbering, so Reptisaurus starts with #3. All together, the series ran 8 issues with 1 special and concluded in 1963. It amazes me that AIP didn't sue them-if something like that happened today, can you imagine the lawsuit?? Reptilicus also happens to be a movie that i have the pressbook for. The pressbook is very nice-large sized with the great Reynold Brown poster art reproduced in black and white on the cover with a pink tint and bright red lettering. There are pages of various sized ads and 2 pages of articles intended for the theatre owners to place in local newspapers-how many of these ever actually got used I wonder- and 1 page of ballyhoo ideas! My favorite one has the theatre owners using street stencils and hand out ads to put up all over saying "Reptilicus is Coming!". If only movies were this much fun these days!

I posted this some time ago, I think in another Reptilicus thread...the strange story of one girl's obsession with Reptilicus. Touching, sad, and silly by turns! The Parable of Reptilicus: www.littleboh.com/reptilcs.shtmlIt's one of my favorite stories!

the whole country helped out in making this movie. those scenes of army vehicles? all loaned from their armed services. the Danish version is just as entertaining, including the show-stopping number "Tillicus" sung by the handyman.

Of all the unbelievably silly bad movies ever made, REPTILICUS stands out because it was a huge production. It deserves an award for that stupendous bridge scene, alone!

i don't have the Danish version, just seen some of the clips at Comic Con where Kip Doto was promoting his book. he did a good job with the presentation.

Carl Ottosen ... Gen. Mark Grayson Ann Smyrner ... Lise Martens Mimi Heinrich ... Karen Martens Asbjørn Andersen ... Prof. Otto Martens Bodil Miller ... Connie Miller (Danish version) Bent Mejding ... Svend Viltorft (drilling crew chief) Povl Wøldike ... Dr. Peter Dalby Dirch Passer ... Mikkwlawn Peterson (night watchman) Ole Wisborg ... Capt. Another cult film that's still waiting for a decent release version to DVD. The bare bones MGM 'Midnight Movie' release at least gets it out there, but there's so much greatness to this movie's badness, that it deserves a pull-out-all-the-stops "Ultimate Edition" release. I've read elsewhere that the creative team (Sid Pink, Ib Melchoir) were willing to go the extra mile and actually offered MGM a ton of stuff to include in a release, but MGM passed on it and just dumped it on a bare bones 'MM' disc instead! W-T-F???
Someone with a properly twisted sense of bad taste needs to latch onto this putrid treasure and do it justice. A pity. Perhaps someday...

Allen Debus did a nice write up about Repti in an issue of G-Fan a while ago. they added lots of "adult" situations, apparently, but it was pretty true to the movie.

Now, had they done a version of "Journey to the 7th Planet" with adult stuff, that would've made a lot more sense.
