I have this and WHEN DINOS RULED THE EARTH next to each other on a shelf in anticipation of watching them together one day. l prefer Ray's traditional looking dinos to Jim's but think at this point Jim was a much smoother animator.
Raquel Welch... what can ya say but, yum!

And it was Danforth who ended up getting an Oscar nomination for his stop-motion in WDRTE.
"One Million Years B.C." is just fun to watch on all levels. My interest in dinosaurs, fossils and prehistoric life in general was all because of this movie! Of course, I latter learned that man and dinos never co-existed, but as Ray has said, this is really a fantasy film.
And it is also probably the only Harryhausen movie where his stop-motion actually takes a back seat. When you have Raquel Welch, why not! ;D

i think it takes the proper role in the movie- where it combines with all the other parts to make a superior film experience. so often times it's his effects that are the only reason to watch the movie, or the main reason, anyway, that this feels like a complete movie.
it's my favorite Harryhausen movie.

it's my favorite Harryhausen movie. Oh, believe me David, I still love to see Ray special effects in this one. In fact, the battle between Tumak and the Allosaurus (?), I think is the best ever man vs. dino scene of all time! But then again, when you have Raquel there, you just can't help but to notice!! ;D I should say that the other Harryhausen pic, where I tend to look at the leading lady as much as Ray's creations is Caroline Munro in "Golden Voyage". She sure shows of lot of skin in that one!

she is an astoundingly beautiful woman- Caroline, that is- and should be better known than she is outside of our fandom. gottta love 'em both.
and, lest we forget, Martine Beswick as Raquel's rival in this movie is nothing to sneeze at. i always felt sorry for her in this movie, since she didn't really get ANYthing to be happy about overall.

This one's definitely on my 'to get' list. That screen grab looks beautiful. Is the R1 DVD close in quality?
