This is a great remake which unfortunately didn't find an audience when released. I only hope more people discover it. What a gem! Crispin Glover is perfect as Willard and takes his characterization and relationship with the rats to a whole new level. The story is very close to the original and even pays homage to it. Also like the original, there's little gore but the atmosphere is superb and has some great, dark humor. Crispin's Willard is extremely memorable and should rank right up there with Anthony Perkin's Norman Bates. The DVD also includes Crispin's wonderfully eccentric music video, in which he sings "Ben". Don't miss it!

I think it's a great movie. I always liked the original, but in this case, I'd even go so far as saying this surpasses it. I rarely feel like that and haven't for at least the last 20 to 30 years.

Happened to view this again last night. It's really good and an enjoyable re-watch.
My son bugged me to go see it when it was in theaters, but I didn't make much of an effort cause I pre-judged it as just another worthless remake. By the time I conceded, we blinked and it was gone. Too bad. Glad I gave it a chance on home video.
