I need help! Trinity...a little help here! Can anyone identify this FILM... (I know someone here might know it, because the Xeno people are some of the most knowledgeable around!)
This is a Spanish or Italian film from the late 60's/early 70's. I have no freaking idea what it's called, but I saw it on TV several times in the late 70's.
A guy makes a bet with some buddies that he can spend a night in that haunted castle down the road. Terrible things have happened there, and rumor has it that on this one night, once a year, all the ghosts return to this place to haunt it.
The front gate is covered with lots of iron spikes that figure prominently, and predictably, in the ending.
The guy breaks into the place, and soon finds it full of spirits who are reenacting the events of many years ago. Eventually, the guy begins interacting with the ghosts and BECOMES one of the characters in the reenactment.
As the sun is rising, he realizes that he has to get the hell out, and runs outside, only to be impaled on the iron spikes. His friends discover his impaled body seconds later. Oh, the irony! Oh, the pain! It's a depressing ending, but this is a horror film, after all.
Anyone know this flick?

Either the '60s "Castle of Blood" or its remake "Web of the Spider" in the '70s.

I concur with Shonokin. I checked it out in "Terror on Tape" and basically one is a remake of the other.

See? There you go. I knew one or two people in here would know it. The film I saw, especially if it ends with the guy getting impaled on the gate, is "Web of the Spider." I recall it was in color, so if it's anything, it's that film. This is considered a bad film by some (misguided?) horror buffs, but I thought it was effective when I was 10 or so. And that ending is just awfully creepy. You can see it coming from a mile away, but it still works. Must track this one down now!
Thanks a bunch!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hey Folks, Merry Christmas! I was searching for cheapo DVDs and happened to run across this title a few nights back, for anyone who may not have it and might be looking for it. Apparently, Brentwood Media (BCI), the company that releases all those cheap box sets of old horror flicks, has Web of the Spider on the Circus of Death DVD set, which you can buy for $6. A reviewer claims this version is 8 minutes longer than the VHS version. Don't know how the print is, but on occasion you can actually get a nice print out of a Brentwood set. I found a widescreen print of Lucio Fulci's House by the Cemetery (masquerading under the alias Zombie Hell House) in the Horror Rises From the Grave box set. Not a bad deal for 6 bucks.
