Funny you should say that. I was wondering...
I heard that a short film called "Abbott and Costello Meet the Creature" was produced in 3-D. This is something I heard; never seen it. But a long time ago in the 80's I did find a "Colgate Comedy Hour" show featuring Abbott and Costello, and they did a spook sketch----at the end of which, the Creature (presumably played by Ben Chapman) did appear for about two seconds. Sort of a surprise appearance at the end of the sketch. Not sure if I still have this in storage, but I did have it quite some time back.
Does anyone know if these two films are the same thing? Is the 3-D short film just a rumor?

Little known fact, this was the Creature's firt appearance ever since the special predates the film.It was obvious that Universal had a hand in this since Abbott and Costello were studio stars, and Frankenstein [played by Glenn Strange in the sketch]was also a Universal property,so Universal might have thought it a good way to get cheap publicity for the upcoming CREATURE FROM THE BLACK LAGOON film.I have seen some brief clips of the sketch.Lou manages to get Franky stuck in a box or soemthing, starts to brag, and from behind the Gillman knocks down a door. The audience gasps, since the Gillman was at this point not known and some people were genuinely scared a little. Let's see someone try this with CGI.

I don't recall where I got this info[possibly Don Glut's CLASSIC MOVIE MONSTERS book]but I did read or hear that the sketch appeared after the film was made but before it's theatrical release.I also think this was the last time the Universal Frankenstein was used.

Yeah, that poor-quality PD tape was how I got it! And at a cheesy local video store that had a large number of awful movies, all the stuff I wanted to see.
The Colgate Comedy Hour segment would have made a nice special feature in the "Creature" boxed set. They wouldn't have needed the whole show, just the 10-minute sketch.
