Hey, to those who read the article, let me know if I fail to mention any films that you feel important.

daddy long legs aren't spiders. the rest i completely understand, although they are greatly beneficial critters. without them, as Charlotte says, we'd be up to our ears in other less helpful bugs.
KINGDOM OF THE SPIDERS is pretty awful, the least of which is that ending- anyone that knows ANYthing about tarantulas can see how silly it is.
did you know arachnophobia is not a recognized phobia? i don't know why.
as i've gotten older i've tried not to freak out as much over arachnids, as long as they stay outside i'm pretty cool. and far away from me.
strange that Spidey is one of my favorite heroes, i've always thought!

Daddy Long legs I ignore, but any spiders I find in the house get smashed. We have Brown Recluse and Black Widow spiders in Nebraska. More of the first than the second. The bite of the recluse actually kills the skin and is reported to be extremly painful. I do not intend to experience it first hand so spiders inside don't survive my seeing them. Spiders outside I will walk around. I'll leave them alone in their territory.
That violin spider mentioned in the article is probably the brown recluse sometimes called the fiddleback.

The violin spider is indeed the brown recluse spider. I heard it called by the former before I heard it called by it's official name.
I don't kill them w/ a passion like I used to. I generally try to leave them alone...most of the time.

The British science fiction tv series Doctor Who had several over sized talking spiders and one giant talking spider in the 6 episode story "Planet of Spiders" (1974). These spiders had psionic powers, so they could think you to death.

I recently did a lengthy job at a building some ways north of here, and the place was overrun with spiders--deadly ones! Black widows were everywhere, constantly crawling up on you and building nests and whatnot. And there were other kinds of spiders, big ones, things I never saw before. The owners of the building are awfully nice people, but they're not into killing spiders--expensive, you know. I saw so many creepy spiders, one night I had a dream about a movie called "Tomb of the Spiders." And it wasn't much worse than the stuff I was seeing on a daily basis.
