Captive Wild Woman (1943)
John Carradine - Dr. Sigmund Walters Milburn Stone - Fred Mason Evelyn Ankers - Beth Colman Lloyd Corrigan - John Whipple Acquanetta - Paula Dupree Martha MacVicar - Dorothy Colman Fay Helm - Nurse Strand Vince Barnett - Curly, a rube Paul Fix - Gruen, the handler Ray Corrigan - Cheela the Ape
A circus film with a little horror thrown in.
This is the most absurd of the films included in "Universal Horror Classic Movie Archive". A mad scientist (John Carradine ) uses a woman suffering from a disease which causes her body to produce too much female hormones to transfrom a gorilla into a human female. He stole Cheela the ape from a circus. He takes the woman, whom he calls Paula Dupree, to the circus to see how she will react to the man who captured her when she was a gorilla and trained her on the ship. She helps him train lions and tigers by staring at wild cats which frightens them into obeything him. When she Fred Mason kiss his future bride, she becomes jealous and later transforms into a an ape-woman and tries to murder the woman.
There is very little of the ape-woman.
Shots of Fred Mason (Milburn Stone) training the lions and tigers are actually shots of animal trainer Clyde Beatty. They edit the shots well but its still sometimes obvvious that the film images are not of the same quality.
I used to have an uncle who resembled John Carradine.
Milburn Stone would later play Dr. Galen 'Doc' Adams in the televisions series "Gunsmoke" (1975-1975).
