The Tingler (1959)
The Movie:
produced & directed by William Castle
stars: Vincent Price - Dr. Warren Chapin Judith Evelyn - Martha Higgins Darryl Hickman - David Morris Patricia Cutts - Isabel Stevens Chapin Pamela Lincoln - Lucy Stevens Philip Coolidge - Oliver 'Ollie' Higgins
Uses new film technique "PERCEPTO!"
"The Tingler" is the name that Dr. Warren Chapin gives to the creature that is responsible for the sense of spine-tingling fear. If you scream you will surive, if not the Tingler will kill you.
This was the first film to feature a character who uses LCD.
"PERCEPTO!" was of course one of William Castle's famous gimmicks. Theater seats were wired so they would vibrate during the in theater scene near the end of the movie. Castle also hired people to scream and faint.
I love these campy William Castle films. It must have been fun to see them when they first came out. The only in theater gimmick I've experience was "Sensaround" for Earthquake and Midway.
The DVD:
languages: English (mono), Spanish (mono) subtitles: Enlgish, Spanish, Portuguese, Chinese, Korean, Thai special features: "Scream For Your Lives!" Featurette (making of documentary), William Castle's Drive-In "Scream!" Scene, Original "Scream!" Scene, Theatrical Trailers ("The Tingler", "Night of the Living Dead"), Talent Files (William Castle, Vincent Price, Darryl Hickman)
"Ladies and gentlemen, please do not panic! But SCREAM! Scream for your lives!" -- Dr. Warren Chapin

a very weird and fun movie- if "Percepto" worked properly i bet many filmgoers were "jolted" right out of their seats. i gotta look into the DVD for sure. is the color scene intact?

"Blood" in the sink and tub showing as red in this otherwise b/w film? Yes.
