Got the Universal Sci-Fi vol.2 with this film in it. Pretty much had the same reaction as you, David. Lame movie. Sparse and poor make-ups. All characters so unappealing that you didn't even give a rat's ass whether they bought the farm or not. A miss-fire for sure, made worse by the fact that it occupies the last disc all by itself, instead of one of the other, MUCH better entries like "Dr. Cyclops" or even "Deadly Mantis!" Ugh!

In finally seeing this after a long long time, the story somewhat reminded me of Merian C. Cooper's "She" and I actually do think Coleen Gray was pretty good in the lead.
It wasn't as bad as I had anticipated, but this last of Universal's sci-fi movies does end with a thump rather than with a bang. Probably would not have bought it if were just a DVD single.
