The government of Cuba has been overturned. Some survivors stole the treasury. One fourth of it is intrusted to an American gambler with his own boat. He's to take it and several Cubans to safety. Unbeknowst to the Cuban's he intendes to steal the gold. Unbeknowst to the gambler one of his crew is actually a US government agent who intends to stop him. This man is also the narrator. Unbeknowst to everyone a sea monster has its own plans for them. The gambler orders two of his men (one of whom mimics animal noises) to kill one of the Cubans, making it look like a sea monster did it, using a toilet plunger and two sharpened rakes. Two Cubans die. One at the hands of the young gangsters, one at the hands of a real sea monster. The gambler chastises his men for killing two cubans, they deny responsability for the second one, but the gambler doesn't listen to them and no one realises there is a real monster until its much too late.
This film is a parody of monster movies and spy movies, and to a lesser extent, gangster movies.
On Sci-Fi Classics DVD along with The Giant Gila Monster and an episode of Flash Gordon. The version of Creature from the Haunted Sea on this disc is the tv version which is 12 minutes longer than the original theatrical version.
