Bloody Pit of Horror (1965)
Mickey Hargitay - Travis Anderson Walter Brandi - Rick (as Walter Brandt) Luisa Baratto - Edith (as Louise Barret) Rita Klein - Nancy Alfredo Rizzo - Daniel Parks (as Alfred Rice) Barbara Nelli - Suzy (as Barbara Nelly) Moa Tahi - Kinojo Femi Benussi - Annie (as Femi Martin) Ralph Zucker - Photographer
This is an Italian film dubbed in English.
A group of models (male and female), their publisher (or is it editor?), their photographer and a reporter turned fiction writer (as if there was any difference) visit an old castle to take photos for horror novel covers. The castle once belonged to The Crimson Executioner, a 17th century mad man who was executed in one of his own torture devices. The castle's current owner orders the tresspassers out until he recognises one of the models (Edith) as his former girlfriend then he agress to let them spend the night. When two of the men, looking for the wine celler, ignore the warning to stay away from the dungeons and accidently break the seal on The Crimson Executioner's "tomb" the castle's current owners goes nuts and tortures the intruders to death as The Crimson Executioner.
This film has the worst (fakest) looking oversized spider I've ever seen.
Bloody Pit of Horror is available on a DVD titled Horror Classics, along with Horrors of Spider Island and Nightmare Castle.

I got a kick out of finally seeing this. The Crimson Executioner is definitely one of the wackiest villains ever. This and HORRORS OF SPIDER ISLAND are also both on the Horrorlicious DVD set with 7 other films.

This movie was alot of fun!I love the Crimson Executioner-definitely a wacky villian! I would of loved to see him as an opponent for santo, or Superargo since this was an italian movie. Actually the Crimson Executioner and Superargo have similar costumes. That spider was so fake looking because it wasn't supposed to be real-it was a clockwork spider that had poison on it's claws-all part of the terribly elaborate spider-web scene set up in that room. I also absolutely love the wacky soundtrack to this movie! I wish their was a CD of it out!The disc I have it on is also called Horror Classics, but it's a different one. mine is from platinum and has 3 other movies on it-BELA LUGOSI MEETS A BROOKLYN GORILLS, REVOLT OF THE ZOMBIES and THE SCREAMING SKULL.

This was indeed a strange film, kind of sleazy, but with a lot of interesting killings. I watched it as one of my Halloween movies this year.

I got a good deal on this film on a triple feature dvd with NIGHTMARE CASTLE and HORROR OF SPIDER ISLAND for 2.50. At that price the three films are danged near CITIZEN KANE!
