Konga (1961)
Michael Gough - Dr. Charles Decker
Margo Johns - Margaret
Jess Conrad - Bob Kenton
Claire Gordon - Sandra Banks
Austin Trevor - Dean Foster
Jack Watson - Supterintendent Brown
George Pastell - Profesor Tagore
Vanda Godsell - Bob's mother
Stanley Morgan - Inspector Lawson
Grace Arnold - Miss Barnesdell (Foster's secretary)
Leonard Sachs - Bob's father
Nicholas Bennett - Daniel (student with radio)
Kim Tracy - Mary
Rupert Osborne - Eric Kenton
Waveney Lee - Janet Kenton
John Welsh - Commissioner Garland
After spending a year in the jungle (kenya) Dr. Decker returns to London with a chimp he calls Konga. The doctor injects Konga with fluids extracted from insect eating plants which transform the chimp into a gorrila. The professor then hypnotises the new Konga and sends it out to kill three men who are in the doctor's way. When the professor lusts after one of his students his lab assistant fiancee becoms jealous and injects Konga with another dose of the growth drug and sends him after her false lover. Konga now giant sized terrorizes London and the army is called upon to deal with him.
Konga only appears as a giant ape in the last few minutes. Not nearly as good as King Kong (1933), Son of Kong (1933) or Mighty Joe Young (1949).
Another film in which I didn't recognise any names in the opening credits but then when the lead character was introduced I recognised his voice and face. Michael Gough was in two episodes of The Avengers, two Doctor Who stories and an episode of Blakes 7. Propably better known as Alfred in the 90's Batman movies.
"Fantastic... There's a huge monster gorilla that's constantly growing to outlandish proportions loose in the streets"
