Canadian nurse, Betsy Connell, is hired to care for Jessica Holland, sick wife of West Indies plantation owner Paul Holland. After a fever Jessica is left in a state of mental paralysis. She can't talk but can walk and obey simple commands. The locals think she's a zombie. Nurse Betsy falls in love with her employeer, whose half-brother was in love with his wife. There is in fact a zombie, a skiny, almost skeletal black man with glassy eyes.
More of a dark romance than a horror movie.
