Shaun of the Dead (2004)
Simon Pegg - Shaun Kate Ashfield - Liz Nick Frost - Ed Lucy Davis - Dianne Dylan Moran - David Nicola Cunningham - Mary Peter Serafinowicz - Pete Arvind Doshi - Nelson Rafe Spall - Noel Sonell Dadral - Danny Bill Nighy - Philip Jessica Stevenson - Yvonne This British horror movie/comedy is a favorite of my sister (2 years my junior) and brother (4 years my junior), they think its hilarious. I didn't find it that funny, although it has its moments.
The title which is a play on "Dawn of the Dead" is misleading, Shaun is not dead. And he would like to keep it that way.
"There comes a day in every man's life when he has to get off the couch... and kill some zombies. When flesh-eating zombies are on the hunt for a bite to eat, it's up to slacker Shaun (Simon Pegg) and his best pal Ed (Nick Frost) to save their friends and family from becoming the next entree." -- from DVD case
Rated R for "zombie violence/gore and language".
The DVD includes a lot of bonus material which I haven't viewed or listend to (I rarely bother with commentaries).

people i know just raved about it, but i couldn't get through the first 24 minutes. but that's probably just me and the time of my life i tried watching the movie. i should try again.
of course, i'm no fan of these kinds of zombies (which are really ghouls, by definition).

I liked it but I wouldn't consider it a film that holds up to repeat viewings.

Great campy flick in the spirit of Return of the Living Dead, but I'd agree that it doesn't hold up to repeat viewings.

I enjoyed it and found it pretty funny. Most contemporary comedies don't make me laugh and I usually don't bother with them. My oldest son recommended this and we had a good time watching it together. I guess I'm still a bit of a sicko at heart, but I think that once was probably enough for me too.

My sister and brother would not agree with you, since they've seen it and enjoyed it more than once.

A lot of the humor is "geek humor" that only people who watch zombie movies will get. These jokes tend to lose their funny after a couple of viewings. But the film seems to maintain a snappy feel for me. It does move pretty fast.
And that "Queen jukebox sequence" is pretty cool.
I like this one, I think, primarily because it stays fairly true to its horror roots and plays its horror straight for the most part. Scary and disturbing for a supposed comedy!
