Yes, they never bothered to tell you that THE INCREDIBLE MELTING MAN is also AN INCREDIBLE P.O.S.!!!
It is a terrible film. But all the same I am having a hankering for this melting astronaut movie. I ordered it from one of those VHS sellers, but it's very slow getting here. I am really wanting to see it right now, but I have to be patient. It's so strange when you really want to see a movie that you KNOW isn't any good.
Some years ago I owned a copy of it. And one day I got sick of it. "This is awful! It's taking up space on my shelf!" I was thinking. And so I put it in an envelope and mailed it off, you know, to someone hundreds of miles away. And now look at me. Aching and yearning for some of that melting action. What a fool I was!
I wasn't so nice to my copy of THE MAJORETTES, a film I decided was SO bad that when I threw the thing into the trash, I pulled the tape out and stretched it and snapped it, making sure no one would ever play that tape again. "If I don't destroy it," I thought as I did this, "someone else will watch it, and then their mind will be damaged by it--I can't allow that to happen. Yes, this is for the best." It sounds like a joke. Have you seen this film? It's not a joke!!!!

I remember seeing the trailer for it when I bought "Reptilicus." I looked like it would've been good, but then trailers can fool anybody.

It was episode 704 of the vacuum cleaner show that David hates so. It's a really bad movie. Really. The movie ends up with a janitor scooping up gooey chunks of the melting man's remains and throwing them away. Other hilgihts:
"Wait! I'm Ted Nelson!" *guard shoots Ted Nelson* "Aadgka!" the new curse word.l

Yes, The Incredible Melting Man is a pretty awful movie...I remember reading an interview with Rick baker and hw was pretty annoyed at how indifferent the director was with the FX. I kinda enjoy it in a retardo kinda way but then again, i enjoy watching Slithis ;D

Well, yeah, I totally agree...and SLITHIS is a great movie. I feel sorry for that guy in the heavy waterlogged suit.
There are movies that you watch because they're good, and you pay attention to those and take them seriously; and there are films that you put on when you're in a "loose" mood (you know what I mean, baby!) and just want to watch something "retardo," as you say. And there are more examples of the latter than of the former, I reckon. So you gotta put the popcorn in the old microwave and roll with the punches!
I am still waiting for my silly copy of Melting Man. Where is it??? Aw, it makes me frustrated waiting for that POS to arrive! And it's true...the rubber effects are great, but were staged and photographed so ineptly that you can hardly see anything. I miss this movie, because it IS the 70's...the lameness, the fun of the emerging makeup effects boom, the STOOOOOOPID stupid title. It makes me want to shake my head.

well, you could always watch THE HIDEOUS SUN DEMON since it's basically the same movie!

I haven't seen THE HIDEOUS SUN DEMON in ages, but that's a fun movie too. Nice suit....C&R? (This joke is based on what may be a regional commercial, so slap me if nobody gets it.)

I saw this for sale on DVD with what appeared to be a modern sequel/remake/spoof. The Hideous Sun Demon, that is. Can anyone tell me about it?

It sounds like "What's Up, Hideous Sun Demon?" which is the "Hideous Sun Demon" movie redubbed with funny new dialogue, basically the same thing as Woody Alien's "What's Up, Tiger Lily?" film.
If it's as funny as Allen's thing, then it's pretty funny. But I've never actually seen it...nor spoken to anyone who's seen it...
Some jokers supposedly did the same thing to "Night of the Living Dead," and I almost think that to be sacreligious...

FINALLY the thing comes in the mail. And it's the most enjoyable stupid movie I've seen in quite some time. Ahhhh, what a nice feeling, watching all that rubber and sticky goo melting all over the place.

I should've!
Maybe I could get one of those low-carb pizzas, you know, the ones that are just a bunch of sauce and cheese inside a shallow tray, and you scoop it up with a spoon? Sound good, anyone?

Man, the commercials for this creeped me out when I was a kid. But then, they still know how to make great commercials and trailers back then.

Oh, yeah. Back then (in the 70's) we hadn't seen everything. Very few people were familiar with H. G. Lewis's movies, so gory stuff like INCREDIBLE MELTING MAN was very intimidating to viewers.....
I will say this for the movie--bad as it is, it does deliver what the title promises. I didn't like INDIANA JONES AND THE TEMPLE OF DOOM that much either, but after it was over I said to myself, "Well, I did get a Temple of Doom, so at least they weren't lying..."
