Voyage to the Prehistoric Planet (1965) Basil Rathbone - Professor Hartman Faith Domergue - Dr. Marsha Evans John Bix - John the Robot Gennadi Vernov - Andre Ferneau Georgi Zhzhyonov - Hans Walters Yuri Sarantsev - Allen Sherman Georgi Tejkh - Dr. Kern Vladimir Yemelyanov - Commander Brendan Lockhart In the year 2020 after the exploration of the moon men set their sites on Venus. Three ships are sent from Earth. The plan calls for the three ships to unite and land as one, but just as they arrive at Venus a meteor strike destroys one of the ships. Professor Hartman in command of the mission from Luna 7, a base on the moon, announces that the two remaining ships should orbit Venus while another ship is launched. However, the robot "John" computes a new plan allowing remaining ships to make an orbital survey then have two men and the robot land on the surface. Professor Hartman approves of the new plan. After landing on Venus the two men and the robot fail to respond to radio calls, so 3 more men land in a rescue mission, leaving Dr. Marsh Evans alone in orbit. Venus proves to be inhabited by tentacled plants that feed on human flesh, savage man-sized lizards and dinosaurs. Voyage to the Prehistoric Planet combines scenes from a Russian film "Planet Burg" with American made scenes of Basil Rathbone on space station Lunar 7. Voyage to the Prehistoric Planet is available on DVD along with Voyage to the Assignment: Earth (Italian) and Warning From Space (Japanese). The disc costs 7 or 8 dollars. I found Voyage to the Prehistoric Planet to be the dullest of the three films.

i liked it, but i saw it as a kid, and then the next week saw PLANET OF PREHISTORIC WOMEN, which made use of some of the same scenes. it was a little confusing to me at the time.
i'm surprised the Russian movie hasn't been released over here at all. it's very interesting and better than these two.

I heard a guy on the radio claim that the KGB is alive and well and supporting terrorists. Some people think the Russians and the Chinese will band together against the US. With or without the Russians I think the US is eventually going to go to war against China.

Hey, this movie and its counterpart recently were made available on the Prelinger Movie archive. I've downloaded them both, although I haven't gotten around to watching them yet. Not only that, "A Trip to the Moon" has been released there.

I just picked up a Dollar DVD double feature disk featuring IN THE YEAR 2889 and VOYAGE TO THE PREHISTORIC PLANET. Watched PREHISTORIC PLANET last night and found I pretty much enjoyed it. It held my interest and it's always fun to check out older films that I've missed. Interesting to see Basil Rathbone and Faith Domergue in the American footage, and I gotta say I felt sympathy for John the Robot, poor feller. Overall a fun little film.

Question:
On which planet do you all buy your dollar dvds?!?!?!The only ones that show up in my neighborhood are the ones for tv sitcoms they re-run constantly on tv or they are either from really crappy companies whose dvds are so messed up they won't play on my dvds.

I get a lot of mine from our local SAVE-A-LOT store. It's a no-frills supermarket. I've gotten others from places like Walgreens (though they don't always have them). I think Target has them sometimes too.

I got mine at Dollar Tree, Target and Walmart. Dollar Tree hasn't had anything new for some time now. They have too many copies of what they started with to want to get anything else.

The DOLLAR TREES and WALMARTS in my area only carry those stupid 50's sitcoms.TARGET doesn't carry the dollar dvds in my area.

I watched the companion-piece, "Voyage to a Planet of Prehistoric Women" today...at least 45 minutes of it. It's definitely a midnight movie. It was a bit dull, which is odd considering that it's full of monsters (sort of), bizarre sets, and women in shell bikinis. I'll have to watch it again at night instead of the afternoon.

I just watched both versions of the movie--the original movie I liked, it definitely served up more stuff than I was expecting. The robot looked cool and there were, in fact, dinosaurs! Not constantly but the film did have 'em.
The "prehistoric women" version was surprisingly lame but kind of fun...I started watching it thinking Hmm, if they added new footage, how are the actors in the old footage going to interact with it? Are they going to fake it somehow? And then after a little while I realized OH, this is just cutting back and forth between the two groups, and they NEVER really interact with each other.
I am a sucker for that shell bikini thing.

there's a third movie using footage from the Russian movie (PLANETA BURG, which is very enjoyable in and of itself). i think it's PLANET OF BLOOD, or QUEEN OF BLOOD or something like that. i believe Faith Domerque is in it.

Queen of Blood I have on a double-bill with Journey to the Seventh Planet. It's okay, although the climax is rushed. The space vampire is pretty mesmerizing when she goes into vampire mode.

I watched the VOYAGE TO THE PLANET OF PREHISTORIC WOMEN version last night and it was OK. Doesn't FIRST SPACESHIP ON VENUS use footage from the Russian film PLANETA BURG too? Anyhoo, I'll be watching VOYAGE TO THE PREHISTORIC PLANET and FIRST SPACESHIP ON VENUS soon. I picked up a 2 pack of 10 movies each of sci-fi movies at work the other day, so i have 20 movies to watch now! I liked the shell bikinis too, but honestly thought Mamie Van Doren could have shown a little more of her..um..assets. As for dollar dvds, I get them at Walmart(Digiview), Yankee One Dollar Store which is only up here in the Northeast(they have some cool double feature discs) and Dollar Tree.

FIRST SPACESHIP is an East German movie, all that footage is it's own. both good movies, though. if you can, pick up the LB version of SPACESHIP, it's gorgeous. i doubt anyone is going to put out upgraded DVDs of the Voyage movies.
