now this is one fun movie, despite some of the bad acting and incredibly silly monster ("Beulah" as it's known by fans these days). lots of interesting dialogue as well.
the first time i saw this was late on a Friday night, after some terrifying episode of "The Outer Limits" and that had me primed to find this scary. it worked! now of course i view it very fondly but really appreciate the work Corman and cast and crew did to make a movie in 10 days or so.
anyone else have fond memories?

I have it on videotape. That's more than enough.
Though I did like it as a little kid when it came on SON OF SVENGOOLIE.

He learned too late for himself that man is a feeling creature and because of it the greatest in the universe. He learned too late that men have to find their own ways, make their own mistakes. There can't be any gift of perfection from outside ourselves. When men seek such perfection, they find only death, fire, loss, disillusionment, and the end of everything that's gone forward. Men have always sought an end to toil and misery, but it can't be given; it has to be achieved. There is hope, but it has to come from inside. From man himself...
Believe it or not, yes, I've memerized the speech after seeing the MST3K episode (they play the speech 4 times in a row at the end of the episode just after the speech was given in the movie). Even had it as a ringtone. That certainly freaked out my roommate when, while alone in the room, all of a sudden he heard Peter Grave's voice.

Actually, we were both still up. It was probably around 9, and I had just stepped out of the room for a second.

Isn't it curious that the alien only conquered Mayberry and not the World as the title suggests?

well, it IS a Corman movie- i'm surprised it has as many extras as it does! but he did have enough power to shut down the entire world's power supply...
it's odd, that at 11:00 PM at night, after a super-scary Outer Limits that everything in the movie seems far more plausible than after watching it on video 10,000 times!

I first saw this on our old DOUBLE CHILLER THEATER in the '60s. The bat-like creatures creeped me pretty good then. Taped it a few years back from AMC. Ya gotta love Beulah. (It did control Lee Van Cleef and that fact itself is amazing!). And how about Jim Phelps gunning down Beulah's possessed followers?

Excellent training for his career as a secret agent.
I wonder why he didn't ask the alien if he ever saw a grown man naked..........
